Re: Quick one about engine oil for 440

Hello Dave, the engine was built by a neighbour of big daddy don garlits, who actually helped him with the build,so it makes about 550hp,everythings forged etc and it only has about 400 miles on it.I finally got to drive it up to temp the other day and it drops to 40 psi when hot, then when you give it...

Re: Quick one about engine oil for 440

New filter and oil and the pressure is down to 70 psi hot, goes to 80 when revved up.That 20w-50 is thick stuff though.

Re: Quick one about engine oil for 440

well Blue, that's quite concerning. It will blow the oil filter apart!
I read somewhere about changing a spring in the oil pump or cutting a few coils off it?

Quick one about engine oil for 440

Whats everyone's opinion on engine oil for a healthy, built 440,with a solid roller roller cam?I need to change the oil and don't have a clue what is best for the old beast.
It has around 80 psi at idle, but i've read that is not Necessarily a good thing.

Re: Advice on torque converter/stall

Thanks for that,my other car is a big block and has a 3000 stall in it and that feels fine on the street.
So i need a 3k stall converter for a small block, any recommendations where to get one in the uk? I'm going to stick an ad in the wanted section too.

I need some advice on a torque/stall converter. My car is a dog off the line, great when its up in the revs.Wont even do a burnout,i think the converters too tight?Thumps into gear from neutral or park and the idle drops from 950 ish to 600 ish when put in gear. Its a 318 that someone has put the head...

Pinion angle wedges/shims

Hello Sirs,i need to adjust the pinion angle and the easiest thing to do seems to be to use shims/wedges.
Does anyone in the uk sell them?
Rockauto dont and it seems as if it's getting harder to order from the other USA websites.

Re: Does this engine sound right to you?

Thanks Dave, loads of good advice, but i've already done it. The only thing i haven't done is degree the cam. When i replaced the chain, the one that came out was installed 4 degrees advanced so thats which way i put the new one back in. I really might just pull it all to bits and rebuild it,god knows ...
