1973 Plymouth Roadrunner

Post by MilesnMiles »

As reported elsewhere, i've bought a 1973 Roadrunner Petty Blue 340 car from another well known member.
The car has nearly all new mechanical parts rebuilt/replaced
Pre smog 340 hi po motor with J heads inc original inlet/exhaust manifolds
Rebuilt trans, axle, brakes, steering box, ball joints etc.
Pretty much everything inside the car wants fixing up or replacing.
Body is very straight with little rust, lots of patina and solid frame.

I ought the car based on the work already done, the solid shell and I reckon these cars are still good value and its a proper 340 car which i've always fancied.
It needs a lot of fettling in terms of electrics and dash/interior related parts.
Took me 2 hours to change a rear light bulb today. That included having to drill out 3 of the 6 light lens screws that had rusted solid in position, extract the rusted remains of the existing light bulb and try to get another to fit into the rusted retainer. More 'fun' to follow

The car drives down the road very nicely and this B body benefits from the 'torsion quiet' body bushings that really makes the car smooth to drive.

Brakes need new servo as I can barely hold the pedal don, but thats on the way from Rockauto.
Much more to add in forthcoming months, no doubt!

Yep, only original once. The pics show where i've sprayed Gibbs on it. I didnt do the front third yet as i was working on the engine bay. the 340 emblem pic shows rainwater beading up where i sprayed Gibbs on the emblem, but not he surrounding paintwork, that will be done later.

Following on from what Blue said in the other thread, these would go well, Miles:

PayPal could take a better bashing if some bugger would buy my Grand National!

the hotel,is just around the corner from me and overlooks the Barrowfields and Lusty Glaze beach. Used to be lovely old hotel, now its half burnt out and derelict, like so much of the old hotel trade in Newquay

The remains of the Rivera Hotel, been to a few good do's there in years gone by, walk past it quite regulaly, the firebrigade are frequent fliers there due to the fire starters.
