Peggy 1965 Newport

Post by Franken40 »

Hello all, pleased to be apart of MMA i've heard great things about the knowledge, group of people and level of motors this site has to offer.

I'll introduce myself, I'm 23 my names Ashley Bone known to plenty as Frank, Nickname shortened from frankenstein i got the nuts n bolts to match (any orthopedic minds out there i have C1 C2 vertebrae fused two 12" titanium rods and screws) ..... :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:

right onto the important stuff, The car!
:working: :Chrysler2: :Chrysler1: :pentacool: :Mopar:

Peggy as she is named is a 1965 Chrysler Newport C-body. 383Cui, 727 Torqueflite, power steering, disc brake converted front. Original Ice blue paintwork certainly isn't a concourse winner but she has her own charm and demands the road wherever i take her, definitely can't hide with the goliath. has just clocked over 80K genuine miles and since i acquired it used it almost daily to the gawps and smiles of everyone at the bus stops in the mornings on way to work.

My plans are simple keep it completely as is and when it needs something fix it. With the rocker covers and airbox i've bought a 51-56 caddy batwing box (repro) & pair of mopar Performance covers. I am going to remove and replace the original items and refurb and clean the stock parts to put up on shelf for a rainy day should i refit or need them, they are a little tired at the minute so replacing just to clean the bay up a little and not have it off the road too long doesn't require much of an excuse to fire her up!

I'll leave the pictures to explain the rest i wont go on.

look forward to meeting everyone and joining any meets n shows :thumbright:

Chrysler

Post by Franken40 »

A previous owner informed me that the newport was used for a Tim burton film "Dark shadows" featuring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Chloe Grace Moretz, Helen Pfeifer & a little stint with Alice Cooper too. The scene shows the family hosting a ball at the manor house and the cars start to arrive and up the road and into shot comes Peggy. not a very big part but cool ( i feel) none the less. I catch quick passing traffic shots through the film too but couldnt confirm if it was the chrysler in that shot too, but there is definitely some screen time for her 8-)

Hi Ashley, great to have you here!
I was on that film shoot too, with our 63 Polara, and a few other MMA members and their cars. I remember your car being there - I even had a lift in it, around the set, driven by its then-owner, Chris. One thing I do remember about it was its low-slung exhaust rubbing on the ramps when we had to drive up the elevated sections - I hope it's been sorted now!

Hi Robtwin it was Chris on one of the Facebook pages who told me of its past, great to hear of more people/cars from the film. My mates mum has a Valiant sat in their field and they got that off Pinewood studios and they were told that was used also used in the film. You didn't happen to have any pictures from the filming or use of our cars of the chrysler ? be great to have more shots of it, on the off chance you have any :)
