Painless didn't meet my requirements, but I assure you that if Painless does what you need, then £200 is very small money to pay, let alone the value of piece of mind :thumbright:

I completely rewired my car about 5-6 years ago from scratch, but no charging system as was race car & I used to run total loss system with 16v Battery, etc.

I decided to remove all & start again from scratch, which if I knew what I know now, I probably wouldn't have gone this route. Most likely would of gone with a Painless Universal route & added to it.

I agree the electrics are lot more complicated this time, with the Twin fuel Pump System, Charging, Fuel Injection, dash interface, Lights, etc.
The total rewire has taken a total of 8 days, which I assure you is a lot more than £200

Oh well, we all live & learn ;)

I can see this wiring is going to take me a long time. :roll:

It might be just my age but it is taking me ages to work out 100% how each section wires up, compares to the original, and compares to how I need it to be for my modifications.

I just think i have my head around it and then I have to go through it all again.

Better safe than sorry though I guess. I hope I can get it all right first time. You never know.

The rear lights are an minor example. I fitted separate turn signals years ago to save MOT hassles. So I have to wire them different to stock of course.
Luckily Painless include a "third brake light" wire so I can use that for the brake side of the stop and tails and wire the other end directly to the brake switch.

The stop and turn signal wires then just get wired as turn signal only.

It does mean however that I have to use crimp joints for now to get it all working. These I will later cut, solder and insulate with shrink sleeve. Once I am sure everything is wired right.

Since I am sure I have all the cables I need running to the trunk I have wrapped them and fitted the interior panels and rear seat back.

I did that to give myself encouragement by making the car look like it is coming along.

Dave, dont be so hard on yourself, progress looks good.

I wouldn't worry that you are leaving the wiring every now & then to get a break. I'ts not as though your stopping & not doing anything on the car. All the other jobs you are carrying out inbetween, will eventually need doing anyway.

LED lamps seems a good idea, less likely to fail as well :thumbright:

Dave,just check the led bulbs showing through the tail light lenses as leds produce pure colour,which looks best through a clear lens, and I have noticed that showing through a red lens will dim the effect of the normal brightness of a led.
Hope that makes sense as Monday night is pub night!!! :drunken: .

What I`m trying to say is put a led in one side and a normal bulb in the other and compare........Easy when you put it that way huh??? :thumbright:

You can get white ones as well Rich thats what I purchased, when tested they were fine and a lot brighter. :thumbright:

They always tell you to use a RED LED in a red lens when you buy them. So that is what I have done. They look pretty bright to me. :thumbright:

I have not actualy seen any white ones.

I would like a white or amber stop/tail for the front turn/park lights but cannot find one on the internet for love nor money.

Anyone seen any?
