Saw it happen

The pits and camp-site were very quiet afterwards, the only thing you could hear was the squeaking of a flag pole as it moved in the wind.

The parade was very emotional for everyone.

I didn't see the crash, got there sunday evening and was told the awful news.
Very tragic, makes you think about the safety of your vehicle but unfortunately with the thrills comes the danger.

oh crikey , thats sad !! his family there watching too !!
car looks like it held together quite well , must of been flug around inside ?? could not have happened at the worst place , like Dunc said he went doing what he loved !! its just the people whos left behind !!

Again very sad.
I do not think we should enter into discussions on the car, build quality, or reasons behind the incident on this site (or any other for that matter).

I am sure the HSE will take a keen interest in the case, and we will have to await the findings and any potential tightening up on any legislation/rules....

All our thoughts are with his family at this time.

I think you were lucky you hit the side of the track Pete. That must have removed a fair bit of the kinetic energy that otherwise would have gone into making your car roll faster and faster as it slowed down direction wise.

yes i think your right Pete ,
just was a shock seeing what happened !! & automatically went in to detective mode , one of my faults !! like to know the ins & outs , thinking if anything was to be learned from this tragic accident , so others could benefit / avoid something like this happening!! , guess i jumped the gun with why how thinking !! best wait for the offical report

No worries at all Steve, I just know how sometimes people can get passionate about discussions on the board, and I feel this is one occasion where a bit of discretion is appropriate.

Regarding safety features, I think that is an excellent opportunity for another thread or a sticky!
