Exhaust manifold blow

Post by octanejunkie »

Drivers side. Noisy ticking noise, suspect manifold gasket. Any suggestions on the best gaskets to use?
Real Steel stock Victor Reinz gaskets, will they be suitable? I have old cast manifolds, so i'm guessing its not the best of surfaces to seal up.

Those Real Steel gaskets work well.
I'd maybe put a flat steel over the manifold and check how true they are. Don't recall having problems with stock manifolds. Maybe not tight enough. Power booster making spanner access difficult?

I got in there and nipped them up ok, so access not a problem. Not bad at idle, but when you press the loud pedal you can hear it blowing in there. Drivers side exhaust seems to vibrate too, whilst passenger side stays still...
Could be blowing from the downpipe, i'll get it on the ramp this week and have a good look.

Could be hitting the torsion bar as it can get quite tight down there.

If it has aftermarket headers fitted then the multi-layer soft aluminium gaskets from Percy's High Performance work best. Find them at Summit Racing.

If they are the high performance manifolds they are worth money so don't ever chuck them!
