Firstly Fuel is injected at the blue line so the filter has to be above the line.
I have order muti filters. The best i got is the oval K&N filter.

They are never gonna flow enough air to fill those cylinders ............even if I they were UNDER the blower
You only need to stop large airborne particles & any poss debris, like a dust cloud, I would spray some light oil on a foam element gauze & be done with it Will.

Will, drop an Email to Nelson Race Engines or someone like that and ask what they do. Nearly every video I watch if theirs they are running FI.
All that work you've done and no filter.........first time you drive past you neighbours dog you'll wreck the engine!

I have buddy and the VF700F bike filter pictures above is the biggest that will fit in the hat. (Which I don't feel will let enough air past it)
Think I will go with Adrian's ideal and make something to hold the corse foam.
Will have to be strong to not get sucked down the blower

Will,
Just be careful about how much suction is created from the blower. I could virtually hold a yellow pages on the scoop...
If the filters not well secured, it will be gone/ eaten
I never ran a filter, but did run a blower filter
Do you have a gauze filter over the blower inlet, they sell them at Good Vibrations.
inlet gasket G-2014 or similar

Think you'll be okay with what you have.
You've got the throttle blades plus the gauze, so bar dust, you should be okay.
Just don't tail gate........
You could always put some fine stretchable material ( like tights but not prone to combustion), over the metal gauze for fine particle filtering.......it'll be a PITA though to do checks for blockages/clogging!

Will. I think as soon as you introduce any foam/material type filter you will cause problems. That thing is gonna SUCK !!!
I ran bell mouth carbs on my bike for years. Firstly with a mesh gauze like you have , but later with nowt. On the road and strip.
Must say I was paranoid without the gauze though.
I personally would stick with what you have.
