Cuba cars

Post by sublimemike »

A friend of mine was in Cuba last week. He's does a bit of photography and comes sometimes to the Nats. Anyway I thought I'd share some pics. Looks like the chrome holds up pretty well or there is some place to get it re done.

Now it's opening up to the yanks all is not well. Cash machines always empty. Over an hour que at the airport to get pesos. The locals are still on ration books. Believe that! It's hard work to try and get a bottle of water as they aren't really any shops. Half the choices on the menus in the hotels are not available. Debit / credit cards not working. Advice I was given was go there wedged up.

Still It seems like the Cubans have tidied their motors up in the hope the yanks will shell out big. I'm not sure what the export position is but many of these old cars are running BMW engines and pot riveted together with bean cans.

With what little I know of Cuba I wouldn't have thought the cars would be great bargains. WIth the trade embargo there is no end of stuff you just can't get there, they are the masters of recycling through necessity. I read people make thier own brake fluid because you can't even buy that, so you can well imagine what's gone on to keep the old cars on the road.

Well worth a look if you can find a copy.

We have been watching Cuban Chrome , and now that relations are more relaxed at this time,we yanks get to see more and more, and the coolest thing is the cars and the architecture .

very cool shots your mate took,I really want to go there, and I do know a mate that went there recently, and yes it is in need of repair, and they have no funds or resources, pretty sad,and run down ,and almost in ruin, but they live on :?
