1968 GTO at Mathewsons.

Post by Stu Twin »

Could of course be a LeMans with GTO badges?
Cheap enough starting price though.

Hopefully the link works…

It says it has documents proving its authenticity, but would a GTO have had a vinyl roof? :-k

VIN and/or Fisher body tag should tell you if it's genuine but there's plenty out there with vinyl roofs so this wouldn't be a concern for me.

I think you'd need to see it in the metal to make a "judge" ment on whether it was worth the money but Id think anything less than 10k woudl be a steal. If you're going to have a look, I'd pay attention to the pimples under the vinyl roof along the rear pillar. Also looks like the headlights are the hideaways rather than the fixed option but not hidden so might be an issue with the mechanism.

Also rust along the bottom of the rear window panel and boot lid lips are commond on GM A bodies.

That being said, what's not to like about a Verdoro Green GTO. (I only need one of these and a Buick GS to complete the A body ownership set).

Yeah, too many cylinders and built in Dearborn, not Dagenham.
They know their Escorts though.

Not sure who estimated it at 7 - 8K, struggle to get any decent classic for that now let alone a car like this

Blimey, thats a lot of car for 18k! Especially as it appears to be numbers matching and a documented genuine car (unless I have missed something obvious). Guess we get used to E Body / B Body conversations on price, as the real World passes us by. If that had been up privately for that money I would have seriously considered it. Ive never bought a car from an auction so would bottle out for sure. #-o

You'd need to build another garage Steve.
Or would you move over completely to the 'dark side' ? (2 door AND GM) by selling the Polara.

As all my kids are living abroad now I dont do the miles I used to so would love that car as a daily. We are only here once! Something I will consider when my Merc wears out. :thumbright: :thumbright:

I appreciate most American cars up to about 1975 and wouldnt limit myself by make (though most of my dream cars are Mopar). That GTO is just a really nice looking iconic car and no more than a reasonable second hand modern car \:D/

Yes Steve that went for good money and I understand what you are saying, everyday car and American.

I have one but with 4000 cc you soon understand it uses a lot of petrol over short time
