I don’t think there is a lot of visibility to get the yoof interested anymore, the only time they see these cars is at shows now. Not featured on TV like they used to be and very few people actually drive them on the road. That just means they aren’t even in the kids thoughts.

They are all more interested in stuff they can relate to, be it fast & furious, Baby Driver, TV shows or the cars they remember from when they were kids.

Lord knows I’ll have spent way more on my car than it will ever be worth by the time I’ve finished, it’s only worth doing if it’s for your own love, really. I’ll have the car I want and daughter will be able to sell it for less than half of what I’ve got in it when I’m done and she wants to buy something JDM.

I agree Stu. Its not a slur on kids at all, they are into what they are into and unfortunately (and its a generalisation) thats not big American cars that need to be fixed regularly and drink expensive fuel etc. Its the cars they dream of having like you say, from films and shows they watch. With me it was Kojak, Starsky and Hutch, The Rockford Files etc shows full of the cars we love. Its just the same thing.

My son in the US is a car guy as much as we are. He wont look twice at a classic Mopar etc but spends fortunes on relatively modern Japanese stuff. Its just how it is now I think.

I drive my car all year round in all weathers and love it. Im happy I will probably be the last person who will enjoy her if Im lucky. I wonder if the days of a £5K Triple black Charger R/T are 20 years away (yes I missed one in the early 90s because I didnt have a clue how to fix it properly and by chance, didnt have 5k either ), when petrol is just so expensive that the average person cant use them. A 'classic car' will be a 2015 Tesla that needs old fashioned electric (now replaced by hydrogen tablets you drop into a capful of mouse urine to activate).

People in general are far less interested in old stuff these days, life has changed. Prices are totally driven by demand and if demand drops off it’s entirely possible you’ll see that 5k Charger before you’re too old to drive it. I’ve never looked at these cars as investments and I’ve probably lost money on every one I’ve ever owned.

Yes, agreed, not a slur at all, just different times. They are still doing what we were doing as kids, in a lot of cases, just with different styles and more electronically than mechanically in a lot of cases. The rice crispy exhaust map is not by bag at all, but then I doubt burning out a V8 was on my parents list of things they loved, either...

The cars we love weren't that old when we we were kids, they are more into cars that aren't that old now. Same / same, just a different era.

I get small kids absolutely dropping out of reality when they see me drive past and you just know that the association for them is nothing to do with TV , films or magazines. It's that there's a giant hot wheels car driving down the road. They've just never seen anything like it, other than in their toy box.
