New member - Dodge 440 and Chrysler

Post by Chris R »

Hello all - new member here, based near Fleet/Hants.

No muscle car, but I have recently acquired a 1980 Dodge RV with a 440. (I'm looking for RV/van-spec exhaust manifolds if anyone has swapped headers etc onto a similar engine?)

I also own a '48 Chrysler Windsor saloon (6 cyl Spitfire engine) in very unrestored condition, which should be back on the road soon-ish...

My first Mopar was a late 1960s Barracuda with a 318 which I bought from a bloke near Tiverton/Devon in the late 1980s with the engine in bits. Couldn't afford to run it as a teenager, so after a few smoky runs around town it stood in a corner of the garden (Taunton/Somerset) for a few years before I sold it. Wish I hadn't, obviously.... it was light blue then, an RHD export model and had a full-length fabric sunroof. Wonder if it's still around?

PS. Not my horse in the pics!

I doubt your old RHD Barracuda is still around especially as it had a fabric sunroof, they didn’t need any extra help with rusting. A good few were tucked away for years as was mine, so you might be lucky. Love the motorhome, the Chrysler is a bit early for my tastes.

The guy who collected it on a trailer said he was going to tub the rear wheels - Pro Street was popular back then. Not my thing as I've always liked originality, but he seemed to know what he was doing so it could have survived. It was a terrific car with the full length sunroof with the fastback - had a real 'grand touring' feel. WIsh I could find the few pics I took at the time - I can't remember the reg number.

Same thing happened with my first one, someone started Pro Streeting it and it was never seen again.

I don’t recall seeing a fabric sunroof version over here in recent memory. I suspect that’s long since rotted or been squirrelled away, sadly.

Welcome to the board. The RV is cool, I agree. :rr:

Many a classic car was ruined back in the day either by Webasto fabric ones or later glass “moonroofs” I have a photo of a 5 year old Boss 429 at Chelsea with a Webasto sunroof. It had the roof replaced years later during restoration before going back to the states. Sorry, I digress….

Welcome, and love your collection. Im a big fan of originality too. Im not into custom stuff at all. I love the older stuff from the 30s onwards. Im sure your Chrysler will be great when done. They were built like battleships!! :thumbright:
