So sorry to hear this Jon, I was expecting to wind Les up about Nos and the extoll the virtues and reliability of mechanical power adders compared to "cheating" with gas.

I think I might have to get me coat...

Gutted for you Jon. Where did the short motor come from? what crank etc.

Looks like no 3n 6 journal, was getting no oil at all

Ivor it would have been more of a mess if I had put gas through it :D

Alan the crank was from Hughes, I can't remember of hand exactly which one, the rods are Callies CompStar and ceramic coated pistons.

The part of the block that a lot of pepole told me would break seems to be the only part not damaged

Obviously not a good day Turnip  , who built the engine? , this sort of carnage should not happen had the engine been built to a decent standard  , something went badly amiss when this engine went together , not trying to be the grim reaper but truth sometimes hurts , sorry.

Aka Brutus.

It looks really odd. It was put together by Dave Milam, he was on the phone first thing Monday morning after he had heard about it. He wants to try and work it out as much as we do. Just need to pull it out and get it over to him.

Can you give us a heads up on the oiling system? , #4 cam bearing fully grooved? , standard oiling to heads or oiling via gallery/spraybars?

Sorry for the carnage.

Aka Brutus.

Single pick up external oiling, heads standard oiling. everything has plenty of oil except the big ends on no6 and no3. No5 and 4 big ends look fine.

Take a piece of coat hanger or similar, Bananarama! through the oil hole in the Main bearing, if it comes out the other side its a cross drilled crank.

These cranks can be ok but require a lot of oil pressure to overcome the neg effects of centifugal forces caused which pull oil away from the rod bearings. High oil pressure has its own problems.

It is imperitive that your man checked all the oil holes in the crank for any blockages and or holes not fully drilled far enough before installation.

Just something to consider.

Les

Any more news from the Autopsy, Jon?

When will you be able to get out next? Have you got a "cooking" motor you can use in thr interim?
