As at a couple of days ago, things have been going a lot better, now that the brunt of the de-grotting has been done.

Outer roof rails are now replaced, leading has been removed from the joints, 'oles made good and everything is being taken back, prepped properly and treated. Next is to drop the roof back on to position the drip rails and then get them fitted.

Unfortunately, another step back yesterday. The intention for the trunk was just to wire wheel it back, quick patch of a couple of known areas, treat it and and paint it.

Not to be, once we got through all the grot and saw what we are working with. That’ll be a new trunk floor on order, then.

Making the start of race season is looking less and less likely now.

That’s a bummer, but with that said, you have done so much so far, it makes sense to get the trunk right.

Yes, stood and scratched my chin for a good while, trying to justify just patching it up again, but the repairs are so bad and the rest of it is threatening to go in the near future, so I knew that the reality was there was only one correct decision.

It’s a bummer on time and the engine build I had planned is definitely shelved now, but I hope it will be worth it.

Thanks Neil. Yes, someone did a James Bond move and turned the stairs into a slide about a minute and half after I stepped onto them…

Oh mate it looks like a major surgery

but the car should be a lot healthier when finished and something to enjoy for years

In better news, big thanks to Chris at GAS, managed to get me a trunk floor in double quick time. Ordered on Monday, picked up yesterday. That’s service for you!

I’ll post some more update pics at the weekend, it’s moving on quickly now.

Fabulous work there, that roof skin that came off looks quite good really, I have a similar task to do, have been putting it off since 2014, to remove the sunroof and fill the hole. I have an old roof to use to fill the hole. Great to see the panels are now available and easy to obtain through Chris.

The roof skin that came off is an absolute abomination of bad repairs in reality, Matt. I’ll try and dig some pics out. It doesn’t look too bad from the pictures here, as it’s the underside and covered in thick brush paint, but it definitely had to go.

Yes, Chris is definitely your man, so much easier than trying to to ship stuff yourself.

I think I watched that about 20 times before pulling the trigger. Way out of my talent zone, though, so very happy to have a good welder on the same site as me to be able to do it while I bob in and out to keep an eye on progress.
