Right, I'm getting married on Saturday and then I'm away for 3 weeks to San Francisco. So hopefully there will be major changes in the car by the time I get back.

I spoke to Eric who's doing my engine yesterday and he says it's all done, I just need to get some new headers, I believe I need these:

So, body work almost ready, engine done and new credit cards to pay for the rest of the sundries. All set and a California holiday to look forward to also.

I will check in when I get back and I should have some more pictures to share by then.

rich put the header in your suitcase & save yourself some dosh, I did they just fit. Get them posted in adavance (cos there aways late)to one of the hotels you booked

Cool, I'll do that. I'm only taking a back pack when I go anyway so I could buy a suitcase and fill it with bits and bobs. What do I say at customs with that sort of thing? Do I have to pay import duty or anything? I've never brought stuff back myself, not a load of stuff anyway.

They are USED car parts given to you as a gift so cost you nothing too.

Yep. Dave said he has plenty of time to chop your roof while you are away.

check your luggage allowance & you'll probabaly be allowed 2 bags @ 25kg each, go to wal mart & you can buy a set of travel 5 bags (2 of which are suitcase size) for only about $60 & fill them up. as dave says remove all prices etc ( but keep recipts just in case), I had my suitcase oped with shockers/headers & they wornt bothered, my mate brought a $4000 (£ 5k here) bike thought customes with nothing to delcare. We'ed put together over there used it & got it nice a dirty first though

& remember at walmart but 2 x $10 pay as you go phones to use over there- only 20c/min to phone uk & saves you & your lass running up hugh uk phone bills ( as you can tell louise liked looking around walmart she'd of went every day if id let her)

Just found an old photo with my old Charger in the background that shows it with the shaved door handles and lack of some of the trim to make it less cluttered.
This must have been in the mid to late 80s.

Boot lid looks a bit wobbly because I made the skin myself and the top half of the front wings are made of chicken wire and fibreglass.
All the sheet metal in the lower 10 inches of the car is scratch built.
These things rusted badly living in the UK.

I emailed a guy about the headers I'm looking at and got this reply:

Thank you for your inquiry for Dynomax Exhaust. We appreciate your
interest in our products. In regards to your 1969 Dodge Charger with the
440 CID engine, the header no. 85034/86034 will indeed not fit Chargers
equipped with the power steering option. My engineers are telling me that
the demand for the Chargers with the power steering option wasn't high
enough to justify developing a separate set of headers for Chargers with
power steering. So unfortunately, you are going to have to look elsewhere
as we just don't offer a set of headers for your particular Charger.

This is odd as I have found several other places that say that the 85034 will fit 69 Chargers with power steering.

Any help advice?

As far has HM Custom service is concerened, that don't mean dip Bananarama! !.... If they want too stick their fangs in, there aint nothing you can do.

Old 2nd hand gifts or what have you, they can & are still be liable to HMS tax !
Basically, VAT is applicable to all. There is still a limit to value of goods impoted into UK outside EU, used to be anything above £28, probably higher now, but not much.

Good to know, cheers Mark. This whole thing is trying to save me money but if I'm going to get stung for it anyway I may aswell just wait until I get back home and order them.

I just want to fix up my car and drive it, one day I'll be able to say that all this hassle and expense was worth it.

I may find some other bits and bobs at the Pismo show too so I'll have to be careful what I pack in my bag.

Get yourself a pair of these mate. Power steering no problem.

No, not Hedmans (theres a reason they're that cheap), go for Doug's. Much better in quality and fit. I've seen Dave's set fitted and the local GL replica round here has them on his 383, lovely finish and fit. Well worth the extra $$$ IMHO
