Satelittes must have a different type of suspension set-up?

Most Torsion bars I've seen don't revolve, they tend to stay fairly still LOL!

The cracking on the Manifold is very common and always seems worse on the 70/71 castings?

Seen loads like that at swap meets, buy 'em cheap and braze them up!
Best $50 you ever spent on a Mopar.

See you Guys in the Show ring come da Nats LOL!!! :thumbright:

He who dares Wins, Baaca feelin sheepish?

Dont worry Ash, already got em. Pics to follow....

Now who extrude-hones cast iron manifolds round these parts to within an inch of their lives :-k

;)
No one in the UK as far as i know Rob  Anyway you don't need them, guy's in the States running 11's on stock HP manifolds ;) 8-) 8-)
remember reading about testing Extrude-honed cars iron hp manifolds ! on a 440 motor !! they only picked up 1 ft lbs torque over stock from memory & no hp gain !! cam in the motor was specked out for manifolds

Spotted this Mitsubishi 440-powered wheelie-truck this morning, on the North Circular!

And by coincidence he was also going up the A1 to Stu's house ;)

And look who it was, our old friend Andy, who also helped us take it out of the Satellite last time we tarted it up (only cosmetically tho) in 1990 - see page 2 of this thread.

I'll post more info on what's been done, when we get the list from Paul Knight, but basically a freshen-up same cam but new bearings, new rockers & shaft, rings, heads machined with new seats & guides, bores honed.... and whole bunch of other stuff no doubt :? :geek:

de-baffled ;)

We've still got some work to do before we can get it in the car... mainly painting a few bits - mounts, brake booster, wiper motor, so will get it back in next weekend.

BTW, that's the old alternator there, just to get the brackets provisionally lined up, so will get the new one on & lined up when we eventually get the bolt kits (& spacers) we ordered a few months ago from 440source

We'll also attend to those unpainted bolts on the manifold & valve covers. We only recently got the studs for the heads. and Paul fitted the manifold after he'd painted everything, so we'll get a lick of paint on those for that almost (where it suits us :D ) stock look that we're sort of going for

We'll also look into whether the distributor hold down clamp should be zinc/cad/whatever plated (but presumably not chrome) or painted?

What are you other stock-type-guys doing with your clamp?

Best laid plans, etc etc

Had hoped/planned to get the engine in over the weekend.... but limited hours available meant we just got a few steps closer. Fingers crossed for next weekend :?

Rather than struggling for access once the engine's in, we figured best get the wiper motor & brake booster fitted first. Then spent more time than we should have, getting the manifolds bolted on

Bit of a schoolboy error.. screwing the manifold studs in using just 1x nut, we (ok, I) managed to get 3 of the nuts stuck on their studs #-o . After borrowing a butane torch & buggering a few threads, eventually got them off, then fitted them properly with 2 nuts, and managed to get both nuts off this time
Didnt forget the PTFE tape, thankfully.

Really pleased with the manifolds, so a BIG thanks to DaveB for coming to the rescue :thumbright:

Following on from the post somewhere above, the suspected crack in the repaired manifold did show a bit of a leak when Stu poured some thinners in :(
Whilst Ivor/Jon/Frank were prepared to have another go at welding :thumbright: Dave had also offered us a spare pair for a small(ish) fee. A fee that he's prepared to wait for payment till the swap meet, I might add! :notworthy: Thanks Dave, youre a gent!

And as a bonus, they are a better, earlier casting than the other pair we had (68/69 vs 70/71).

Although the pair from Dave arrived looking a tad rustier than our old pair, they scrubbed up well, and look a treat now they've been painted with high-temp cast iron grey 8-)

I'll add some 'before' pics when I get them from Stu, but here they are painted & fitted, along with some other pics of where we are at the mo...

Brake booster ready for install. Fourth attempt at getting the right paint finish (satin), after 3 times being too glossy and speckly, using paint from a local automotive paint supplier. Fourth go was using Halfords own brand :)

The car is looking good keep up the good work and thanks for all the effort you go to to post your progress. The pictures are a great help to me to show me/everyone how brake lines are meant to be run.

Looking good guys, what colour is the engine, I used Hemi orange first time and it looked dull, so then went for Chevy orange.

Yes Derek, Street Hemi orange.

Bit thin in places, so could have been a bit shinier still IMHO :?

The max wedge is the Race Hemi orange, which is a bit duller, so maybe you got that?

Yes, well it will be when we've paid ya! :D

All it took was most of a wire brush, some thinners and a couple of rattle cans of VHT. Time will tell how long it lasts. Certainly looks better than the Eastwood cast iron paint we've used in the past.

Got another type of paint coming from Frosts for the calipers, but that's another story...

here's the before, after the after :?

Thanks Anton, I'm sure Stuart will be flattered by that, after all his hard work on that brake line!

The info is out there for us all to see, on various sites.... if you've got a few lunchtimes to waste... :smash: :sleepy2:
