Spot-on Andy. You only have to walk round the Classic Motor Show at the NEC to see what's already being regarded as a classic - Allegro's, Maxi's etc

I was told, or read, many years ago, that insurance companies define a 'classic' as any car that has an owners club.....

The 'everything will be a classic' comments are pointless here.

The point of this thread is to pick cars that stand out and will be remembered one day by dewy-eyed 50-somethings as part of a mis-spent youth. Once the kids have gone and the wife tells the husband he needs a hobby to get him out of the house he'll go looking for that 4- or 2-wheeled trip down memory lane and will pay silly money to get there!

Ramdunction is spot with those 3, though they're classics already.
As for cars that are new now and will be classics in 20-30 years...

Thinking on the lines still of future spare availability,many of the Seat range deserve a look,because they are VW based and quite sporty,a lot of youngsters in the early 20s' age group are running them now,so in 20 years time they may want what they had right now.

Renault Clio V6 - You can pick them up now for less than £8k. I had one when they first came out in 2002. They are slow, handle terrible and their lower spec little brother could outrun one ( Clio 172 cup ) but they have that certain appeal and they will rocket in value in year to come.

If you look at Renault 5 Turbo "2"s ( wide arch rear engine ) they are now going for over £30k. Back in the 90's they were £4k all day long.

Any of the Nissan GTR cars including the Skyline of course.

3rd gen RX7 - 22 yrs old, still awesome.

My thoughts too, it will be nigh on impossible to keep more modern cars on the road in the future. I think the whole concept of the classic car can not be something that is ongoing.

Basically any of the sports performance range from manufacturers will gain classic status. Some will gain it quicker than others, but they will all be lusted after in later years!

Oh.................and any VW as people seem to love them!

This particular model is a very well kept example and will only appreciate in years to come......

No modern cars will have true classic status like E type's MK2 Jags and Daimlers, P3 3500 Rovers Pa Cresta's etc, modern cars are just too mass produced with no build quality or class, give me a traditional real walnut dash anyday.
