Jesus christ, if this is suppossed to be some sort of face saving excercise, you've failed miserably. As a man with years of experience if you think it can't be done for the money why the hell get involved in the first place? I shouldn't need to tell you that if you take on a job no matter what you charge it's got your name on it so it better be right or you sort it out till it is, and that's the only bit of the whole deal anyone remembers. Sorry fella but all this waffle says is you've been very good at making bad decisions.

Thanx Blue,
I knew you would see the funny side...
I couldn't agree more.
I wasn't given the opportunity to put things right?
I have always put things right in the past, its what I do.
I'm sure in any disagreement we are allowed to reply?
I tried to tell the truth and keep it light.
New cam, old cam , new rods, old rods etc.
Most builds of this nature go well over £5000.
I told him so, MY BAD!!!

I think that Blue Bananarama! the nail on the head, I used to build a few motors professionally, if I got asked if I could do a job at mates rates I'd always say no, it will always leave you out of pocket as anything done to save money will always come back & bite you.

Ok, one last one.
Is this the end of Mopar V8's with original factory parts?
Its over the counter Chinese repop parts all the way now...
I was doing a favour for a mate, at my own expense.
My BAD...no excuses just an explanation...
440's and face, totally unsaved?

Not necessarily, it depends on the application and the feasibility of being able to check if the parts are liable to survive.
I was doing a favour for a mate, at my own expense.

As I've already said, you put your name on something and it goes wrong the mud will fly in your direction, it might not be fair but that's how it is.
"Yea I had this great guy build me an engine for a great price but because I wanted to cut a few corners I was badly disappointed" said no one ever...

Without getting deep into the do's and don'ts and possible pitfalls of building engines for 'mates' at mate's rates, I would at least expect the customer mate to raise any issues directly with the engine builder mate and allow them the opportunity to put things right, before sharing publicly across a forum like this.

For what it's worth - when I was building my 440, bacca/yaba did all the machining, balancing and pointed out things that needed rework or replacement. Started and ran first time. No problems since.

As I know too well being the recipient of a well known ex member's engine build prior to my ownership.
