Engine bay wiring removed and getting the bay ready for cleaning. Likelihood is I'll take the opportunity to freshen it up with some satin black I have kicking around :) With the space to work, I'll also swap out the rear of engine hard brake line. Looks a bit crusty and better to do now, then I wont have to touch it again.

The wiring loom is very crusty, so will probably just remake it all now it is out. I've been bitten before with these sorts of things - as soon as you touch them, breaks will appear that you'll never notice. A nice job for dark rainy evenings.....

Yeah, I think you guys are right.....

.....but that will add a lot of time to the job by the time I prep it properly, prime and paint. Black satin on black satin is quick and easy, and this is really about getting it back on the road. And everything takes me ages to do as it is!

Every time a Chrysler engine Bay is not body coloured, a little Mopar Fairy dies.....

It's not a Chevy - do you want that on your conscience???

Found some aluminium lying around so made the pulley spacers it needs. Another job off the list and free as well :thumbright:

:D :D :D :D :D

In my defence:
  • Someone else did it first, not me
  • I have been known to have a Chevy as well
  • .....and even a Ford :help:
I'll welcome a Car SOS intervention if anyone fancies it? :thumbright:

Hi Gerry,

Quick point about those crank pulley spacers.

The pulley uses the centre register hole to locate itself, which is why it's a tight fit. Locating with the bolts alone might cause runout - just something to keep an eye on.

Spacers with registers are available (at a price)

cheers

Thanks Matt :thumbright:

As I was testing them I suddenly realised that. My logic at this stage is it should hopefully be good enough to get everything going, and then I can see how far out it is. My experience of setting up pulleys in the past is that you can never be sure you've got the right alignment until it's spinning at 1500rpm! Once I know it's right I'll get a proper spacer machined.

I'm doing the same with the engine mounts; they won't be pretty but more than strong enough to get it going and when I can be sure of the fit I'll then make them up properly.

What started out as a simple job 2 years ago just grows and grows......without the budget doing the same!

The first nice day in a long time meant I could get back on this \:D/

I decided to pull the transmission out and freshen it up a little bit, then bolt it onto the engine and install it all in one go. That will allow me to test fit the headers (there is a modification to the the trans linkage apparently) and should make lining everything up a little bit easier.

Shame there isn't a show to have as a target
