Front end all complete and back together for now:
Image

Hood will be sorted in August and maybe on for the HRD's.

Another target date set and missed though...........The car wont be at the NATS this year. Due to varying factors (it isn't exactly road legal with its issues), and my lack of trust for it, I'd rather get it sorted and right before I embark on a 200mile round trip.
It would be one thing to break down, but another to lose a whole day of the NATS whilst awaiting recovery. What the rush........its only been 4 years........ :D

New date.....HRD's in September, but with more done/completed!

One of the issues is this car has been bodge city in some part of its life. The biggest one being the fuel system. This has resulted in varying issues including closing down a petrol station and having it evacuated. So with a brand new cooling system sorted, I'd like a new fuel system next!

Time to drag out the old Bananarama! (please note bodge #114 Fuel tank sender modification) :
Image
Image

Like I always do I add stuff to the list as I go.......sand the trunk floor (only surface rust):
Image

So to fit: New Tank, New Sender, New tank Straps, AN6 Braided Teflon fuel lines c/w inline 30 micron filter from tank to fuel pump and new braided Teflon from pump to carb.
Plus, AN6 braided Teflon hose with one way valve (negative pressure) on the vent line. I've decided to add a small air filter to the end of it to try to eliminate dust and debris being sucked into the tank.

One of the issues was the new sender was erratic on the stock fuel gauge and over reading on the aftermarket. Did a resistance test and it was saying 73 ohms empty and 3 full (Chrysler is 70/10). so I knew that wasn't the issue. So I've ordered an Autometer replacement for both that runs in that range!

So this is my next port of call.......Install, routing and wiring:

Keep battling away and in the end you will have a car in which you will have complete confidence and trust.....

that’s a shame Dave

surprised you’ve started pulling it apart just before the Nats

sure I read you went to Gary’s Picnic in it and it was sorted

seen your ad for the Wolfies, what’s on it now then??

Thanks Pete, that's what I want in the end. Happy now that it'll stay cool, once the fuel is sorted, then I really have no reason not to drive it.

Si, It was a hard decision, but as I said above, the risk wasn't worth taking for me. Not only If I broke down and missed the NATS, but I'd also be shafted if I'd been pulled or worse had a crash.
Once I'd decided to leave the Darts NATS debut for another year, it was a case of why not carry on and pull the old fuel system off.

As for the wheels......Wolfies are still on at the mo. If they sell I'll be able to shod the other wheels with rubber........Managed to bag some 15" steel wheels in the right fitment. :thumbright:

Lots of sanding in the Trunk, then some primer for protection:

Image

Mounted and run the new wiring for the Fuel gauge. The nasty dash mounted one is now in the bin (Makes the interior look a bit more tidy):
Image

To run the new wire front to back I had to remove some trim.........:help:
Image

The factory underseal set like concrete and explains why this car is in such good condition underneath. Had to sand it down to get a flat mounting position for the new fuel lines.

The blue ring is for the vent line and will consist of one way valve, plus filter and braided hose.

The black ring is for the actual fuel line. This will follow the stock route, but will have a 30 micron filter located at the rear (away from heat source). I also much prefer being at the back (no puns intended), so locating the filter hear makes it easier for gauze replacement and making sure the connections are tight:

From the trunk:

Ran out of time and energy to do more than that......Next stop...Fuel line! :thumbright:

Bonus time...........This was a surprise.
I have absolutely no history with this car. No fender tag. Just the Vin............Well until yesterday:

Happy as a pig in Bananarama!! :woohoo:

Interesting though as the car has been repainted at some point (not factory correct):

UDF colour = GB5 (Decodes as Bright Blue Met)
Paint Style = V01 (Decodes as Mono Tone Paint)
Body Paint = GA4 (Decodes as Silver Metallic)
Roof paint = V1X (Full Vinyl Top)
Stripe = V5X (Black- Mouldings- Protective insert body side)

The two i've highlighted in red are interesting. I always thought the car was originally B3/B5. The above tells me Silver.........But its blue underneath?

Any guesses?

Nice find Dave, don't know what it means yet though. At least you made it to the Nats, along with tons of rainwater! Great to catch up as usual. Chris n Rose

The back seat area looks like the original silver paint. I'm guessing the blue mentioned was for the interior metalwork?

UDF = Upper Door Frame

GB5 is the color of the upper door frame (above the door panels). GB5 is medium blue, G=1972 was the year this paint color was first offered, B=Blue, 5=Medium Hue. Cars that don't have upper door frame paint, e.g. the door panel goes all the way up to the door glass, will have '000' in this location

That is cool, is it the factory build sheet?

Yes it is, gives you the full breakdown of how the car left the factory. You normally only find them on fairly original cars, they are usually long gone on anything that's had the interior apart. I've only ever had one Mopar where they were still there, there were 4 in that car, under a front seat, rear seat, under the carpet and under the headliner which was the clearest one to read.
