so the discussion at the moment is whether you should be able to run a 0.004" gauge round or a 0.002" gauge??
You got it, unless I haven't :?

the radius of the bore should be 4 thou bigger than the radius of the piston

that means the bore diameter is 8 thou bigger than that of the piston.

the radius being 1/2 the diameter

Carl, gap your rings properly, carefully put it all together checking all the clearances including VTP and you will be fine and running sweet :thumbright:

Did a bit of searching because I started to doubt myself.
Everything I read says you have 0.008" clearance.
This book explains how to measure piston to cylinder wall clearance.

 not again !!!!!
This should be re titled the " piston to wall " thread !!!
As I understand it.
Carl took the block , pistons and rings to a reputable engine machine shop along with the pare work for the Ross pistons showing required dimensions etc.
the bores were honed to the correct dimensions ( according to Ross ) which resulted in 95% of the scoring being removed.
Rebuild time !!!

Correct Carl ??? ;)

Correct Gary

And we have 4 thou either side of Piston so in theory we are good to go.

Thank Bananarama! for that !!!!!
By the way. A circle only has 1 side. Therefore a PTW of 4 thou !! :D

I'm sure you'll be fine Carl.
By the way how do you measure your bearing clearances? :?
