Clive that's my wife's car - a Nissan Cube. Jap import. V cool actually. Seats 7, but smaller than a Focus. Column auto, cam chain 1.4, bench seat, assymetrical glass at rear - a real quirky ride.

Hope your going to take some pics or better still some Vid of your mate converting your tyres to Redbands. It would be interesting to see how his machine shaves and paints the tyres in more detail 8-)

I'm not normally a private number plate ponce but put the feelers out in the last few months to see what I could get cheap that was relevant to the car. As of today my ride will wear DGE 383E. It's simple, but I'm happy. Time to get some proper plates made up!

It's going to be the Charger's first RWYB event @ the Pod this Friday 14th. Anyone going to be there from the MMA? Be good to also get some tips on how to get a good 1/4 run in a 4-spd manual. What sort of time should I typically expect from a high output stock 383?

Yesterday I changed the oil/filter and, after a lot of reading up, decided to use a 15-50w mineral oil made by Comma. I ran it in with Kendall oil, but cant help thinking that straight weight oil is surely too old fashioned? A multigrade like 15-50w covers everything, right? I put 4.5 litres in and it seems a bit high on the dipstick. Mmmm :shock:

that oil will be fine

can't trust ya dipstick... who knows what it is out of :) need to do an "i'll show yoiu mine " etc with a happy charger owner

but does it take 4.5 liters with a full oil filter or empty? i.e where did the 4.5 come from?? as the amount of oil is usually quoted in most publications in quarts bushels spans and cubits.

commer and halfrauds " for old bangers" is all similar stuff 15-50 or 20-50

most of this generic motor factors oil is made by one big supplier with subtle variations for each company, like the bottle :) . they also make stuff for most european cars manufactuers

its green smells right and works with old rubber and string seals.

if you have way too much in you will get rocker clack eventually as the foam moves through the lifters. if they are hydraulic. and oil pressure will take a dive.

you would know this within about 20 minutes of 60 mph driving

have a rest and let a bit out

i'm 94.56% sure you will be fine

The original workshop manual says 4 US Quarts (or 3 1/4 Imperial Quarts) plus 1 US Quart (3/4 imp quart) when filter is replaced.

I worked that out to be about 5 qt(US Liq) = 4.73176 L

Sounds about right to me. Certainly 4L is not enough.

drag racing with a 4 speed

i am a novice but

1) bring revs up, burn a bit of clutch nurse it to avoid the wheel spin then nail it

2) bring revs up to mid range side step clutch nail throttle to floor never lift up bang it through the gears with the shortest dip of the clutch possible and chirp ya way down the track


no2 brings breakages but also a better result when it works
no1 keeps it all together apart from the clutch plate but you are hoping to gain mid track what you lost at the start....and seemingly thats not the way to a good 1/4

i use no 1 everywhere apart from my front drive

if i break it there getting home is dead simple.

have a chat with simon blue 72 he has more experience of doing this than I

The clutch is new (900 miles) so I bloody hope it'll be ok! Not got a rev counter or working speedo yet, so shifting might be down to guesswork :oops: :( 8-)
