I don't know but this sounded better (Check the Vulcan out at the end...)
Did it make that sound with the rocker box off?
Which bank?

Yes it does. Can't tell which bank, Ive even had a screw driver against the engine to listen for where the noise is, still not certain, but from outside it sounds back left.
I have all the valve train out now, so will take the plugs back out and see if i can still hear something just by spinning it on the starter. If so it will be bottom end and heads will be off next.

At the risk of being the harbinger of Doom, is sounds a bit more serious than a lifter. Very metallic rather than a tapping.
I think you are right and strip down is in order.............sorry.....

Hmm, does sound worse than a lifter. they tend to clatter and than sounds deeper in tone.

Sorry Matt........sounds to me like a spun bearing to me!

You won't necessarily lose oil pressure with a spun bearing in the early days.....I have to say that I do not think that is a top end problem and maybe it is an engine out job....

could be a main bearing down though pete which is loosing oil press to the big end,i,m pretty sure you will hear the big end first before the main bearing grumble, either way sounds like its got to come apart
