Block stripped, checked, de burred and cleaned. Ready to go back together, parts are supposed to be here tomorrow. In the meantime I had a look at the heads, port match isn't great on those or the intake so well on with sorting that.

Transmission. It works fine and the fluid is clean so I saw no good reason to have it apart right now. I ran the numbers anyway thinking it was most likely the original '68 904, but was pleasantly surprised to find it's actually a '74 A999. This is a heavy duty 904 found behind 360 cars which has a wider band and extra clutches in the front drum among other things. Not that easy to find in a non lock up variety I've read so bit of a result. Anyway, added a cast pan and a shift kit and gave it a clean and a slosh and it's ready to go back in.

That’s a well good result.
That sump pan looks really deep, who’s make is it, and what’s the extra bracketry on the left side.

it's a Summit own make Richard, it's better sealing I was after more than capacity to be honest. Bracket is for the B&M shifter cable.

I had a similar oil pressure problem on an old Jag 3.8, it turned out to be the pressure relief valve losing its tension when hot, changed the spring and what a difference ... :thumbright:

Engine will be the usual Mopar orange, should look especially good against the B5 blue I reckon.

I had an odd oil pressure problem on my old 16 valve Astra Don. Oil pressure was fine at idle but dropped away as the revs went up. New pump was just the same. Turned out the slight dent in the oil pan was hard up against the pick up, the clearance is very tight on those engines I found out...

Been reading up about small block oiling and the consensus seems to be unless you are going way north of 6000 RPM (which I'm not) the standard set up really needs no mods. Gasket matching and porting the cap and pump is one of the first mods mentioned and as it costs nothing but an half hour of my time I did it anyway as any help to the suction side has to be a good thing.
