Dear Peter Walton.
Sorry I forgot all about cleaning that relay for you but as i suddenly remembered about an hour ago I gave it a quick polish up before bed.

Clean as a whistle inside. Just some minor oxidisation on the inside surface of the cover.

Tried it mate. With my old 15lb cap. Which is how I know I need something to stop the hoses pulling apart.

That is actually very helpful.
OK Dunc. I can get to my feet go another ten rounds.
I am seeing the doc to try and get drugs to control my blood pressure on Monday. If I get them I think I will be able to work harder without getting the headaches. Fingers crossed.

Dave, you can get a new relay for a few quid (£3 in the US, granted you need to get it back), that's cheaper than polishing your 30 year old one....
(Just thought I'd relish the opportunity to say that as I am probably guiltier than most on that front!

)

Well I just thought I would do a little restoration rather than what the yanks call restoration which over there means replace everything.
Even though actually a polished finish isn't actually restoration either. But it saves me from polishing a new one.
It took less than an hour to take it apart and buff it up. Including cleaning the terminals and nuts/washers and running a die down the batt. stud to clean the threads. That was not even rushing and even included the time to photograph the thing.

I'm with you Dave, just couldn't resist. Anyone can open their chequebook and buy a bunch of new stuff to bolt on (well actually it does same some cash to do that....and nothing wrong with it, we all have to a bit) but a bit of ingenuity and bringing stuff back from the dead is very satisfying!!

I did two hours on it last night and have nowt to show for it. Also some of the wiring work I have already done will have to be re-done because I am worried about the current capacity of one of my wires and also I have had to change the type of circuit breaker i was using to a type that will need fitting somewhere else.
I think if I get a good few hours in tonight I will be able to sort the above as well as make a bulkhead connector for the battery cable.
With the battery being in the trunk, the cable runs through the car and through a hole in the bulkhead near the starter motor.
As I was going to sleep last night I thought of a way to terminate on the inside of the bulkhead and use a short cable from the other side of the bulkhead to the starter motor.
That way I can terminate things that need to go directly to the battery like the alternator, MSD and fuse box at the same connector more neatly and with shorter wire runs.
I just need a large grommet with a small hole, a threaded stud, nuts, washers, and the lids off a couple of spray cans.
I grew up watching Blue Peter.
