Hi, if you enjoy it your not wasting your money, however you gotta be realistic and realize that with that weight its never gonna be a low 12 sec car? and be streetable n/a, saying that and without any knowledge of what engine etc you have...13.0 sounds ok on streets and the weight.
Sounds to me like that extra 49hp you say you got with that carb is slowing you down with more wheelspin at the start than you had, and also you seem to be running out of puff at top end from what you say...that could be a jetting issue amongst other things like ignition?
Slicks..well, yes, thats the way to go however your motor/carb/ignition has gotta be right with more fuelshot from the carb shooters on WOT or you could bog her off the line and go slower, get all that right and I can't see why you can't go into the 12's.

Hope this help some?

2.7 tons is about the weight of a small battleship, a Torino of that year is normally between 3600 and 4100 lbs , also 49 hp from a carb change seems a hell of a lot, it must have been very undercarbed.
Les is right about everything else, put slicks on a heavy car with no converter and it will fall flat on it's face. Ask me how i know ;)
