A few more that have been in Anton's Workshop recently, varied amount of work done to each vehicle.

John could always collect it and bring it too me Rob and Stu.
What up with it. Still having starting issues and running issues

Thanks for your concern guys :thumbright:

Starting issues seem to be resolved, thanks Anton. The problem we're having at the mo is it occasionally (but more often than not) cuts out when you slow down approaching a juncton and occasionally still cuts out when you shift into drive.
Pete's kindly offered to help with carb tuning if we can get it to his place, but we've tried a couple of short test drives recently and despite fiddling with idle mixture and float levels, it still cuts out now and then, so we dont fancy driving too far to get it sorted.

To recap, we started looking at a few bits that needed attention last Sept/Oct:
kickdown needed adjustment
vac advance didnt seem to be working
major bog on acceleration

Managed to get the kickdown sorted (in theory only as we havent been able to road test yet) but then the starting problems resurfaced (as outlined in Stu's 'Non Starter' thread.

Spent the next couple of months going thru the electrics and ended up changing the ign switch and some of the related wiring.

Starting problem seemed to be cured and it felt nice and crisp when idling in the garage but then the 'cutting out when shifting into gear' problem reared its proverbial.

Discounted any suggestions of torque conveter / trans problems being the cause - it was working fine before the ignition problem, and in any case, Paul Knight got the converter and trans fixed (leaky seal) last Sept.

Bought a vacuum gauge to try and get the idle mixture correct... best we could manage was around 10" with initial timing set at 18 deg but plugs didnt look too bad and exhaust was nice and clean.

Still cutting out when going into gear so checked the function of the neutral safety switch, which cheked out ok. Whatever we did, it seemed to do the trick as we could get it to start and go into gear without cutting out! However, 1st & 2nd seemed hard to get so spent some time adjusting the linkages and came to the conclusion that someting down there needs to be modified. But as long as we can get park & drive, it'll do for the time being.

So, all set for a test drive. Approaching the first junction, on a bit of a downhill slope, it stalls just before we come to a halt. Restart it, then it cuts out going into drive! manage to start it again and get into drive and pull away. Couple more junctions later we get back to Stu's garage and it stalls as we pull up to reverse into the garage.

Managed to get back into the garage and decided that the primary float level needs checking (no point doing the secondary float till we can get it running properly on the primaries!). Looked a bit low so we adjusted it as best we could. Didnt get round to retesting till a couple of weeks later (which was yesterday), by which time Stu had read up a bit more about adjusting float levels, so we reset the level and went for another road test.
Went the same route and the car cut out again approaching a junction. Not just as the car came to a halt but as we were slowing down for the junction. Idle was set at 950rpm. As I restarted the car and shifted into drive it cut out a couple of times (lucky it was a quiet back road) but got it started again and managed to get back into the garage without stalling again. Had to be careful tho by giving it a few more revs when slowing for junctions but I must say on the one occasion I got to give a little throttle when pulling away, the bog appears to have gone it did feel pretty good. :thumbright:

So, that's where we are at the mo. Thinking we now need to start looking at power valves and accelerator pumps :dontknow:

We've checked for vacuum leaks around the carb, manifold and brake booster but as we have a wheezing noise when pushing down on the brake pedal (which we know could be an internal problem in the booster), we were also wondering whether, what appears to be a slightly loose check valve could be the cause of any problems?

To summarise, oustanding jobs are:

Carb tuning
Vac Advance operation?
Ign timing / advance curve?
Check electrics (correct resistances etc)
Brake booster vac leak?
Shifter linkage set-up
Kickdown adjustment

Well you did ask! :D
