I got a bag type one from Car Builder Solutions for Mandie's Chevy truck, same as original fit on Hillman Hunters, so a tenuous Mopar link.

I did wonder if an Abody bottle would fit on the fender further back. Might have to whip the one off the Barracuda and play with that!

I can’t use the one from the Challenger, as they are profiled for the passenger side, otherwise I’d just swap it over.

Once you thrown the heater away pretty much anywhere you like! An A body one would work too.

i just cable tied a stella can to the radiator mounting on the side where the pipe goes and stuff the pipe into it

been there for 10 years

tools
1 can stella, drink
1 screw driver make 2 holes in can
1) cable tie or maybe two

tie can to rad support bracket so the bottom sits on the little shelf bit that goes under the radiator, pop end of the pipe through the hole normally reserved for consumption and relax

no drips on track,
As i have a normal radiator cap its not going to slurp up beer dregs. cap doesn't let water in, it only lets it out....

I might bin the heater at some point if it becomes more strip than street, but not on the priority list. At the moment a reliable streetcar that I can race occasionally will be spot on.

I’m definitely going to look at what’s on the Barracuda and see if that would work, I reckon it might well.

No idea why I’m fussed about having one really, given how chronic the wipers are anyway.

Dave, I’ve already got the expansion tank, so I’ll just drink the Stella and lob the can in the recycling.

Good weekend at the HRDs, ran well there, 2 1/2 hours at cruise and no problems, except got a bit warm in the traffic off the motorway. Had a good suggestion from Blue at the track and swapped out the plugs for one step cooler (thanks to Dave for the spare plugs!) and ran great 3 hours back the long way round the motorways at a good cruising speed, no problems when we hit traffic off the motorway. Not sure who went by us on the M6 in a yellow 70 Barracuda, but that was good to see.

Feeling much more confident in the reliability of the car overall finally, decided to have some fun on the lane on the way back up to the unit. Loads of space and a good view, never any traffic, so gave it a bit of load from stationary and throttled it. Went well and felt strong! Took a few moments to get into its stride, but then moved significantly. Wondering if the higher stall converter that’s been discussed may help with the revs off the line?

Wish I’d put it down the track on Sunday now, but happy that it feels strong enough, so looking forward to next season giving it a thrash now.

So obviously now it’s working well, it’s time to pull it apart.

Will cruise out a few times to empty the tank a bit and then out comes the engine and box for the big engine bay tidy up and repaint. Box will be off to Blue Automotive and the rest will be a voyage of discovery.

Speaking of paint… a chance meeting with the bloke who painted it many moons ago and I finally know what the colour is! Signal Yellow.

Higher stall converter would get the engine straight into the cams rev range so yes, instant kick in the back.

Todays 1 handed project, front indicators. Mine are both broken, passenger side has a big hole in the casing and drivers side lens is shot, cracked all over. £135 a pop plus shipping for re-pops, so wasn’t on the critical list!

I wanted to retain the amber lenses, as I didn’t want to be able to see the bulbs through them, but couldn’t find an undamaged set. Andy (mustangbooks) came through a blinder with some clear lens versions which were in good shape, though.

I took a punt on some lens tint paint off eBay, gave them a really good wash and then hit them with some acetate / plastic cleaner that I use for my turntable top to get the remnants and grease off. The spray went on ok, but very, very light, so over the course of an hour I emptied the whole tin on them, gently building up.

I wouldn’t say the finish is the greatest, but using a spare from Dougie (thanks chap! ) as a point of reference, I took it as dark as I could. The originals are a deep amber, the lens spray is definitely more orange and not as “clear”, but translucent enough that I think they will be fine with light through them. I may well use amber bulbs as well for a deeper orange. The key bit for me was not being able to see straight through them.

Also from Dougie was a set of new gaskets, so pretty happy all round for a £10 tin of paint, a few quid on postage for the gaskets and a couple of hours work.

I’ll finish them off with a chrome paint pen round the lip before I fit them, but for a 10 foot car I reckon I’m good to go. They look miles better than the broken ones and perfectly acceptable for a driver car.

Yes, quite happy and glad to get rid of the holes and cracked lenses.

Managed to get them fitted left handed, what a game it is without being able to hold screws properly.

Happy with the colour of the flash, too! Nice and bright.

Glad to be getting back to some progress, however small.
