Thanks both, I’m hoping so!

In terms of petrol resistance, it says don’t start the engine for 4-6 days after painting, which is handy as it’ll be a few weeks yet. I’ll let you know, but hopefully won’t find out for some time. :D

Next to get the pan on once it’s dry, using a recommended one piece gasket, which sounds entertaining to fit, then I can sort out stripping and repainting the valve covers and filter cover and cleaning up the grotty looking manifold!

Looks fine, as Dave says most of it isn’t fully visible when it’s back in the car.

Stu it looks very good in the picture and it would look nice and clean when put in with all other stuff, and that is the aim. :thumbright:

well done =D> =D>

I need touch up paint for my engine which is RED, and was thinking about a brush on idea, so would be interested to know the paint you used.

Thanks Ali.

The paint is POR-15. I used their degreaser and metal prep as well and got it all from Frosts, delivered very quickly. If you buy from Frosts direct rather than their eBay store, they give you a text code for your opening order that gets you some money off.

Just don’t buy their brushes…

Oh and I recommend not dropping your oil pan off its perch half way through painting as well. Caught it, but it didn’t half make a mess of my jeans.

Here’s the link to all the POR-15 stuff. It’s the engine enamel I used, didn’t use the rust preventative, as the engine enamel is meant to do both.

 I can’t claim all the scraping fun, I’ve done a good chunk of it, but a bigger chunk of it has been done by a good friend who came to help last night, who will be doing the re spraying of the engine bay. :thumbright:

Meanwhile, oil pan is back on and I have just taken the boot lid off and stuck it in the boot of my daily, waiting to be taken to be paint matched for the engine bay paint and I have the valve covers and air cleaner in the garage where I am going to strip them back and repaint them. It’s progressing slowly.

:D I’m thinking about it, but then I keep thinking I might need it to dry me out on the way back from Pod… :toothy2:

All depends if you'll only be driving it on warm/dry days, as I mentioned elsewhere I was going leave it out but after the damp drive home through Scotland, it went back in but only for the demist mainly. Its all down to personal choices :)

Yes, I’m still debating, but leaning well towards keeping it. It’ll be driven to and from the track anyway and plenty at weekends, so more likely to need it than not. :-k

In the meantime…. Paint matching!

:D Not quite!

They had 3 different machines to try and match it, think we’ve got it now, but have a small sample to do a sprayout with before committing. Fingers crossed!

Just starting to clean the intake manifold up and want to address something else that’s always wound me up…

Someone had plugged where you would normally use pipe plug fittings with bolts that stick up. The bolts are 5/16-18 thread, but I’m sure these should be NPT, shouldn’t they?

My question is, if I get the right thing, are these threads the same (enough) or am I now dealing with something that’s had a new thread carved into it.
