Wow, this thread did not go the way I was expecting last time I looked!!
Anyway, I know a guy who is a committed pacifist, he has been one all his life and goes to pacifist rallys, writes in pacifist publications, he's always going on about it. He also likes to go out and randomly beat people up in the street, he carrys a knife and often stabs people for no reason. Well, I'm shocked - I thought pacifists were nice people, but he clearly proves that pacifism is bloodthirsty and vindictive. They should ban pacifism.
Or how about this. Doctors are evil people. That guy Harold Shipman coldly murdered innocent people - and he'd taken the Hippocratic oath, just like the rest of them. So clearly the Hippocratic oath is an evil document that causes people to commit murder. Doctors should all be banned.
Hopefully my point is obvious - if you want to point fingers at a RELIGION, look at what the RELIGION says - and in context, and in the round. Don't look at people who claim to represent that religion but do the opposite of what it says. Jesus said to love your enemy, bless those who persecute you. As he died he asked God to forgive those who had killed him.
I'm not an expert on Islam, but I've read a bit, and listened to a debate between two Muslim scholars, one moderate and one extreme, who were trying to justify their take on Islam using the Quran - I have the say the extremist make his case far better from referring to what the Quran actually said. But anyway, Muslims need to make their own case, I'm not one and can't speak for them.
So there are moderate people who claim to be Christians, Muslims, and Atheists. And there are extreme people who claim to be Christians, Muslims, and Atheists. How do you know who the 'real' 'followers' are?
Look at what their code says, not what they do, and then decide.
Oh, and if you still don't buy this line of reasoning, then you might want to consider these facts and presumably conclude that Atheism starts wars and genocides.

Personally, I accept that Atheism does not compel you to do these things....just like Christianity does not. But please let's let go of the tired old argument that "blanket religion" is the cause of all the wars. It's factually untrue and not even difficult to falsify.
And if you want to find out which peoples are REALLY suffering persecution today, it's not hard to find out. While the liberal West feels smug about how tolerant and fair minded we are, poor and oppressed peoples around the world are being killed for being Christians while the West is largely silent. That's what I call obscene
