Anyone has any success dying old Mopar vinyl to a completely different colour?
We've got the chance of buying some spare interior parts for the Polara but they're black, not red like we need.

Might be worth while getting the parts if we can be sure we can get them dyed successfully, but if they're gonna look a right dogs breakfast when we're done, we may as well live with our cracked, but correct colour originals.

Mark (Newport 100), did you have any luck with your green parts?

Haven't done it myself, but know many who have (I was thinking about dying my convertible top at one stage). Easiest is to turn a light colour dark, but I think it has been done the other way many times. SEM do all the gear and always get good results (applied properly), but I've heard plenty of others with success with other products, including mixing up regular paint with the right plasticisers etc.

There is one key to successful outcome....PREPARATION!! The surfaces need to be absolutely clean, you can get special cleaners and surface conditioners to do that, some people seem to use other methods but for sure the successful ones all did a thorough cleaning job.
When that is done it apparently can last well and look as good as the original, even on seats etc. Chrysler themselves dyed door panels etc.

I have excellent results with Vinylkote...I managed to get some old white arm rests off of ebay for my Road Runner and dyed them blue...look great and they still look good three years later...

Rob Marks in LA right now but he did dye the black door panels to the forest green and they came out very well, he used vinyl coat from
John Wolfes.

Rob, my driver's seat was black, re-dyed green when I got the car, but it never looked right, and seemed to get darker as time went by. May have just been bad preparation, cheap dye, who knows?

Don't Legendary make a kit for yours then?

Not sure dye is the right word, i doubt you can actually dye plastic without melting it down and mixing in dye.

Had good results from painting brown interior parts to black with some stuff I bought in UK . its very thin and runny, so it sort of washes into all the grain of the material, conserving the texture. More like ink than paint if you see what I mean.

Frosts sell this sort of stuff too.

We've got seat covers from Legendary, and are in the process of getting some new door panels from SMS, but the parts we're looking at getting dyed are arm rests and dash vinyl, and I dont think anyone does repros of those parts yet

Black to red.....tricky I doubt it will work chaps, imo
