Nats 2000! (Title change from '99)

Post by Kev »

This was my second Nats, but I had to go on my own as Philth was at a wedding. Can't believe I didn't know anyone then! Got a pic of Blue's Dart but didn't know him then!! What happened to these cars? 'Specially the Orange Cornet, I was informed it was a Hemi! What happened to Shaun's old Barracuda? The weathered Chally was owned by an Australian working in Germany who imported it from NY to Germany. It won best original if I remember correctly. What's the sublime Chally Hemi 'Vert worth? :thumbright:

Yep! Back when I wasn't a pit monkey racer! Just take the air filter off and empty the boot. Good for a mid 15!! (Un)Fortunately I met Blue quite soon after that and there goes my bank balance!!

Great pics Kev.

Red 68 Hemi Charger was Jim Wilson's, went to Jersey soon after. 4 speed car I think. Turned up at a Pod EuroNats a few years later looking a bit scruffy.

Hemi Challenger vert was from the Carlos Monteverdi collection, brought along by the RPM boys, Martin and Pete. I imagine that would have fetched 7 figures ($) before prices starting coming back down.

Black 67 Hemi GTX is John Maynard's old car, also went to Jersey (hence the J plate).

Orange 68 Hemi Coronet was another of Ian Frankland's cars - was restored by new owner who emigrated with car to NZ, according to another recent nostalgia thread.

What a lot of Hemis! Never see that again in the UK.

I took the 71 Barracuda 'vert to that one. I think that was the time the house was flooded and we were homeless - only time I got Julie to camp....great turnout, though.......

This was the 2000 Nat's, first time I'd had the Dart out in years. It was all steel then and still mostly in original paint. Ran 11.90 and then the gearbox let go. After that it disappeared back into the garage for another 6 years...
