So the day after I order a 408 stroker for my car, this happens:

Note that they abolished my resident's discount as well
Still, come 6pm it'll be rolling burnouts all around town

I think the real truth is nothing to do with congestion or pollution. London has bitten off far more than it can chew with the Olympics fiasco and needs to raise money by any means. About £10 billion and still rising.

thankfully the campaign run by the Richmond Rant free paper has killed off the plans to allow all the visitors to camp, and molest the deer!!! with their raucous laughter and continental ways in Richmond and Bushy parks.
so they will need to raise more cash
no place for the visitors to stay (that they can afford) in central London
and rubbish public transport, with a fare system designed to con the tourist if they end up staying zone 3+
double the cost if ya don't have an oyster
bonjour Mr
i ave brung zese oysters with me from my Normandy 'ome
does this mean i not get fleeced now on zee transport???

Pure rip off thats all it is, if a car has passed its emissions test on the MOT, thats good enough for any road
Paolo: register your car as a taxi or private hire vehicle ,also availavble for weddings , arnt they exempt?

What a choice...
Was thinking of registering my car as a taxi. Not to get round the congestion charge, just to help pay for the engine

I'm pretty sure they've abolished the alternative fuels discount in this round of changes as well

The alternative fuels bit:
"The closure of the 100 per cent Alternative Fuel Discount (AFD) to new registrations, and the phasing out of the AFD by January 2010"

Is London now a different country? If a vehicle has passed the MoT test (which is actually a European test now) and has tax and insurance, then it can be driven on the Queens highway anywhere. I could understand this charge if London was a privately owned area. It is not. The legalities of Livingstones policies need studying.

The simple answer is.... Move out of London!
If everyone leaves because of the rip-off-ism then they will have to make it attractive for everyone to come back.
