Yeah you're right but the wheelies and the gorgeous looking car, stick in the noggin when you're young and impressionable.
Then again, if you had a 12 sec street car then you were king of the hill.

1/4 Times have been obliterated in recent years, 12 sec is still a fast street car in my book
Back then a 12 sec street cars, would be on par with a 10 sec street cars these days

....but surely if you took a 12 sec car from back then and raced it with a 10 second car from today, they would'nt be on par? The 10 second car would win, by, well, 2 seconds?

What I mean't, but didn't type was;
12 sec street cars were deemed extremely fast back then
Skip forward to now a 12 sec car is considered not much & to be thought of in the same category you would need to run a 10 or less

The Challenger was running in Super Gas when they retired it, it could run consistent 9.90's, but was the wrong type of car for that class, which is why the first Sierra was built.
