well it started off as a small fruit stall
basic idea was to hit it 30 mph
but then the lady with the fruit turned up
and it became obvious that damage would ensue
50 MPH was the speed
stall made of Oasis foam not polystyrene..... and its built from 12 x8 inch blocks of the stuff
and you start to say
that fruit weighs more than me......
but previous to the whole thing i'd spent a week or so
1) making sure i had a list of guys who could do a very good job fixing it checked out.
basicaly researched on here (who painted what car recently and had i seen it in the flesh, if i had did i think it was any good/better then mine with my uneducated eye and yes of course there are many and some are local, few well placed PMs jobs a goodun)
2) making sure we were insured
3) making sure for areas where insurance was invalid that i was covered for brokeness by owner of production company
the guy who drove was James Nash
http://www.jamesnashracing.com/News2011.aspx
real easy going guy
looks about 15 but take a look at his page
even said sorry about the damage Nice chap
wasn't his fault
refused to wear a helmet.....
said it went through like a knife through butter very stable.
Let them do it??? well its a car, it can be fixed.....and basically why not.
disccused with Liz my wife before hand
basic outcome of discussion was
Its your car
it will get broken
the biggest challenge here for you is how you react when it does,
basically nobody likes to see a grown man cry
its different
will be a good day out
and you get a chance to see your car driven for once
And it was a good day out and of course there is a bit o compensation
you know its going to get broken
its a big prop
and an 8 hour wait for the impact nearly kills ya
i couldn't speak for about 1/2 an hour after the impact.
very similar to the effect of doing a bungy jump...i couldn't speak after that either... didn't hit anyone, didn't cry, didn't re enact the Jimmy/post van scene from quadrophenia, didn't say much, everyone left me to collect my thoughts and spank it up and down to make sure the brakes worked and it didn't pull one way or the other
then filled me up with coffee
then you go through the whole
Ive been an idiot
why why why did i do this
then by the time you are going home you are grinning ear to ear, especially as the band in their transit are trying to keep up.
it was a challenge
the grill had the usual stone chips
front panels were mint but hey
panels
Nose cone and air dam sorted, just need shipping, full soda blasted front end on its way.
grill ends probably ok
grill bottom probably ok
grill centre i have 2 in UK and option on 2 others in Oz
grill top is extruded ally and they make them new so i can get one of them if need be
badge is smashed off but i needed a new badge anyway
light supports
have spares if need be
one of the little lights is pushed back, got a set off a mate of yours duncan about 4 years ago, and set from Baz biker so covered there, bascially have 6 lights and 3 supports so will make up a best-of set for use
same with headlamps. i took out my semi sealed halogens (last set in existance from Hella Aus in 2003) and put in flakeing sealed beams from K-mart
pity they didn't put the screen out.....

really fancied a standard one
it should have an Airtemp style grey tint with green sun strip, last replacement from Pilkington a few years ago they ingnored this request and gave standard screen.
we had a polycarb screen to put in but i didn't fancy disturbing the rubber and mastic to do it.
the production compay were professional and accomodating
had body shop and screen people on site
its all good at the mo.
quotes will be off to production company today
can't go mad, but the people i have asked for quotes will make a very nice job of it.
just have to get prod company to choose... which one
we'll have it fixed by christmas
