I don't know about you, but I'm always wary of people sniffing around looking for metal (usually rare, hard to get pieces of old car) to theive and sell to unscrupulous scarp metal dealers.

If you want to try and put a stop to it, sign this:http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/406

Yes and no,I quite often take my own and my employers scrap to the local yard. The last thing he or I want is a paper trail.
I have 2 regular Gypsy-like lads that call on me to pick up all my ferrous scrap.

If you don't want a paper trail Steve, it says to me it's a bit iffy.

I'm the last one to push for paperwork but I've lost a stack of stuff that has proved irreplaceable because some scally has nicked all the ally for scrap and the lot has probably been melted down...it wasn't quite a complete Super Stock Dart front end, but it was close.

I don't want a paper trail because the boss gives me the old hot water cylinders, piping and wiring as a drink. Paperwork involving money and tax when working for a charity gets very complicated.
I keep all my good stuff locked up,my non ferrous is kept indoors, the worthless iron junk is left on view for anyone to take :D

I can understand that Steve, but that's legal and there are ways around that...ask an MP! ;)

This happened less than 1/4 mile from me, Scumbags for a polite name responsable

Cable theft is rife this neck of the Woods, mainly Railway lines and Substations

remember that Plymouth wagon that was nicked from Stockport about 5 or 6 years ago ended up being banger raced at High Edge with ‘Davidsons Scrap Metal’ plastered down the side of it … ?? Davidsons said that ‘some bloke’ brought the car in and they gave him £100 for it, yeah right, thieving scumbags

about time something was done, thanks for link Ivor, petition signed :thumbright:

As if you would only pay £100 for a car that nice! and why no questions asked? i do not believe him either.

ON the plus side on my recent move i hardly had to take anything to the Tip,left stuff outside in the Yard gate open and most of it went.Got some woman knock on and a rough Lad and they said they had been taking the stuff away and they would leave me a Bag of weed in my Yard. The weed never turned up! :D but i do not touch it anyway!

signed, my wifes charity had the catalytic converters cut off three of the vans overnight.
Lets face it the scrap metal world has always been a bit murky, about time they were sorted out.

Surprises me why the Police don't pull more of them on the road n do them for having no waste licence, escort them to the Scrap Dealer, tip and get no money, that shud pi$$ them off, then if caught again convescate the Truck
