The passenger side seatbelt on me Chally is very temperamental and sometimes takes a few minutes of careful jiggling and tugging to get it to come out of its lil house, spesh when I'm trying to strap fat Rod in
Never had one apart before, any tips?

I had mine apart to put the belts in the dishwasher.

A clean and a little lube on the moving parts when you put it back together works wonders.

But don't expect me to remember how i did it. It can't have been very hard.

I bet there's a big coiled spring in there just waiting to go twoinggg across the garage!

Do it in your Kitchen then You are probably right.

Never had one apart but have put after merket inertias in a Charger using the roof anchor point. Worked really well....cheap too!!

I do seem to remember that the spring is only under tension when you pull the belt out. So no worries there.

if they are not mounted perfectly level they do this

worth just unding the mounting and making sure it is upright 1 - 2 mm lean is enough on some others need to be cocked over about 10-20 degress


they have what can only be described as a
"dingly-dangly"

inside

that locks the belt if you turn upside down

any slight wonkyness can tip this mechanism into working too readily

when you are not upside down.


if you take the belts off use bull dog clips to stop them winding in too far

if you get too much belt round the spindle it jams on the housing and will not allow enough reverse movement to unlatch if it locks...then you really have to take em to bits

you could of course jam a screwdriver in to try to unlatch......but these are yer seat belts....never felt happy with that....just took off the toothy cog unwound and put it back on
