Warwick Weekender

Post by Kev »

G'day Mates!

Had a great weekend away at Mopar Fest, Warwick Raceway, QLD. 1/8th mile country track, not strict ANDRA rules, which is nice!
Great drive out from Briz, up through Cunningham's Gap rising about 600m. Then it got cold :? Weekend nights were a very chilly 8c, especially for an acclimatised Pom! Big fire Sat night helped, plus the "Beer Cloak"!

This was one sweet VG sedan, 440 powered with the neatest minitubs. No great times due to new build/shakedown/no experience. Good starting point for the fella though;

Saturday Night round the bonfire with a few JB and Coke, JD and Coke, plus some Stones Ginger Wine, me pal Cal sez I can have a pass in his car on the 'morrow. Up early and over to Cal's for the low down on his car, here it is;

VC with stroked 360 running on Methanol.
He gives me the run down, I do a few laps of the facility to acclimatise myself with the ins and outs and off down the fire up lane......

Waved through and into the burnout. 2nd gear, nail it, into 3rd, it grips and I'm out of the pad and off the gas, crap skid! Into neutral, give it a blip, roll into pre-stage, into stage, lights come down, nail it on last yellow and I'm off! First pass in Oz! First pass in 6yrs! And it's over too quick! Cruise back down the return road, pick up me ticket (right lane);

Using the 1/8 to 1/4 calculator, that's a high 11/low 12. Not bad! Cal was running 7.1 all day, pulling out a 6.96 best in eliminations.

Other shots from Sunday;

Cal, not me;

Some red/orangeness;

Hemi powered VG Coupe, with crap Lambo style doors;

Lynn's 360 Town & Country Ute, not fast, but consistent. Took out Powder Puff class (ladies), then went on to win the Grand Champion Shoot Out Eliminator. (Winner and runner up from Powder Puff, Street, Pro Street and Fast ET)

You don't need a monster to win sometimes! :thumbright:

That 1 pass has shaken me up. Not going mental, still need the VG as daily driver, but I will be going 2 barrel carby/extractor/electronic ignition, then lap it next year! As Mr Watts' sez "The Pass is the Juice!"

Mopar to Ya! 8-) 8-) 8-)
