Meet Colonel Richard Graham, former SR-71 Blackbird pilot

Sunday 1 March

Former SR-71 Blackbird pilot Colonel Richard Graham makes a welcome return to IWM Duxford on Sunday 1 March.

At 11am, Colonel Graham will talk about his experiences of flying the SR-71 Blackbird and how it compares and contrasts with flying other conventional aircraft.

Colonel Graham will also share his memories of flying the Lockheed U-2 spy plane, predecessor of the SR-71, and the Douglas F-4 Phantom during combat missions in Vietnam.

The talk will take place in the Marshall Auditorium in AirSpace. Immediately after the talk, there will be an opportunity for book signings.

At 1pm, Colonel Graham will host a walk-around tour of the SR-71 Blackbird that he previously flew from RAF Mildenhall, which is on display in the American Air Museum.

The talk and tour is included in general admission to IWM Duxford.

The American Air Museum closes on Monday 2 March for approximately 12 months for an exciting redevelopment.

I have had the pleasure of watching Colonel Graham do his walk around of the 'Bird that last (and only) time I was there. He also signed my book for me. Although it was obvious he wanted me to by a new book and not just sign my tatty old edition.

Did you put him right Dave? I think it shows more interest if you have an older copy!

i wonder in 30 yrs time if enthusiasts will be flying this era military jets like they fly WW2 piston engined warbirds today ??

hopefully they will when I'm a nasty old git, but I doubt it, but still think the piston engined planes will be flying

Amazing aircraft's! Credit due to the guys that flew them, what a testament to human ingenuity. I really wonder what what we as a race have up our sleeves today.

Would I ever lower myself to grovel and ask for a signature? No.....
