I need to get a second hand gear box for my daily driver, (£450.00) my question is if I pay by credit card will I have any extra buyer protection if it turns out to be a duff one? Its a commercial seller on Ebay with very good feed back and has sold lots of stuff on there already. I am just trying to protect myself as its gonna be a lot of work to be fitted if it turns out to be faulty. but getting my one rebuilt with Honda bits is gonna be way to expensive. Anyone done this sort of thing before?

I tend to use PayPal more often now, when I used to use a credit card though, it did provide some form of comeback if it all went pear shaped. Best to check the credit card agreement or talk to your cards customer services dept, if the eBay trader is offering some form of warranty or guarantee, get it in writing if you can.

Credit card and Debit cards are now fully insured with your bank so you are fully covered. If you receive faulty goods its a lot easier to do a chargeback than to go down the paypal route.

Don`t forget you are buying used items

Under the sale of goods act they only have to be " as described and of satisfactory quality "

So if the bloke has described them as " a used item with no warranty " that is what you are buying, it is very different to buying a new gearbox supplied and fitted by a franchised dealer with your credit card.

There is some protection under the act for used items but not alot.

What box do you need have a type R in bits

Honda Civic suffer badly with the front main bearings going bad. new bearings £80.
