The confederate flag has been hijacked by the far right in much the same way as the union jack has. Which means it's use has come to signify a whole lot more than just you are proud of your country.

Funnily enough I just bought a little one for the top of my 'general lee wagon' on the other thread. My wife went bonkers and has said it cant go on. I hate PC stuff
Ref article - Get a grip people. In my context its a prop from a TV show, not an "I love slavery" tattoo...

Yes and that's the thing, an image in itself has no context, only the one it is given. Another example, the nazis hijacked the Swastika image, it had no such meaning before that. A friend of mine has a Victorian house with the swastika design built into the brickwork, many people have commented that it's a bit iffy until he pointed out that the house was built long before the nazis came along...

The context in South Carolina is VERY different to here. Also if you're a black man in SC it's a constant reminder that you're descended from slaves owned by people who fought on the confederate side. Their descendants still proudly fly that flag as a symbol of defiance against the state who made them give up their slaves. Racism there isn't just a few random acts, it's entrenched in the police, the government, business, news, everywhere.
Over here... Around the 2nd world war the Swallow Sidecar company felt it's SS logo was a little inappropriate so the name Jaguar was born. Sometimes you have to think about how your behavior affects others.

Flags in general are just a bad idea.
Any flag that doesn't have a dragon on it is crap anyway
