Evans Waterless Coolant.

So has anyone on here tried this product been reading good things about this.
A better way of keeping that engine cooler...
Its a liquid that's slightly more viscous than water.
Would be interested to know those who have used it to give their opinion.

it probably has its uses but I wouldn't use it.

it has caused more problems than cured.

used it a few times at work and customers have gone back to water based coolant. in Jag engines it causes the oil to run very hot. odd I know but it is what we have found doing back to back tests.

another customer with a 428 Ford found it wouldn't run cool, didn't overheat but ran a lot cooler with water based coolant.

use deionised water and antifreeze (don't use tap water) and the cooling system will stay clean.

The think with it is it stops the rad from puking but doesn't overcome the fundamental problem of the motor running too hot.

If for any reason a leak develops ,then one would have to always have plenty on hand because it is not readily available,and could leave one stranded.

plus its quite flammable and very slippery.

Having seen a few cars go over at the track when a hose has dumped regular coolant & antifreeze under the rear tyres, it would be Bananarama! Bananarama! to run it in a racecar

I did look at it briefly a while back. I decided any benefits were vastly outweighed by the cost and the lack of convenience of being able to refill anywhere from a tap.

marketing hype

lower specific heat capacity than standard stuff i.e worse at cooling

water and a squirt of washing up liquid works better

its selling point is much higher boiling point.

who cares.....that only becomes relevant if we all ran round with the radiator cap off.

system is pressurised.

That is enough to stop water boiling never mind a 50:50 mix of water an antifreeze.

initially it sounded great but the more I have read the more I'm putting it in the same bucket as electric turbos, slick 50 and that engine restore stuff Quentin Wilson bathes in to keep his sliminess topped up.

Water has a specific heat capacity of about 4.2 J/g°C.

Evans is

70% Ethylene glycol's specific heat capacity is 2.2 J/g°C.
30% Propylene glycol specific heat capacity is 2.5 J/g°

so its 2.3 -2.4 J/g*C

i.e 2.4 joules of energy to lift the temperature of 1 gram of it by 1 *c

as opposed to 4.2 J for the same 1cm/1cm/1cm cube shaped lump of water

its gets hotter faster therefore carries less heat energy away

your cylinder heads run hotter.

not good from a detonation point of view
good from a performance point of view more heat in the cylinder rather than in the coolant........
not great from a gasket point of view
not great from a cracking between the seats point of view
not great in a loose valve seat point of view.

+ cost of flushing to put it in

+ cost of ECU remap for fan and temp data on modern cars.

Reading that Dave it sounds like another product to file in the same drawer as silicone brake fluid....
