It's a free download from microsoft to upgrade to the latest version. I did it and wish I hadn't. There was only one windows that was any good,XP.
This 10 thing has messed up my bluetooth, constant startbar problems,it's also very slow for most things, page loading can take ages, startup now takes up to 5 minutes, the list goes on.

It seems developers are releasing updates far too soon these days causing no end of problems that really shouldn't happen. I used to update operating systems as soon as they came out, but these days I leave it a good 6 months or so in the hope that all the bugs have been ironed out, still came a cropper with the last Apple "upgrade" though...

If I'd have known I wouldn't have bothered, was running win7 with no problems. On the other side of the coin, other half has a new laptop running win10 with no problems.

I think one of the problems is operating systems consume so much capacity these days, after a few years computers run out of RAM and they are just not fast enough any more.

Just had updates yet again this morning, now the start bar has failed for the umpteenth time.
Microsoft really is crap for the masses, but I'm never going to pay double for anything from Apple.

I've only ever owned a Mac, in 17 years I'm still on my 2nd one and I reckon l'll get at least another 2 years out of it before it's too slow. I have to use Microsoft junk at work, to me apple is worth the extra money, so much easier to use and I've had years of virtually trouble free service.

You are so right there Steve, my pc went tits up last week so had to replace it, this one has Windows 7, I'm slowly getting used to it but still prefer good old XP. :thumbright:

I was running 7 and then updated for free to 10.

It has been running for sometime now and yes it is a little slower, mainly due to hardware but have had no problems with it, easy to use and find your way around, same as 7.

Windows 8 was the worst I heard, glad I never used it.

I would have the free update (well I did) and you can always go back if you don't like it (so they say), but I am sure you will.

Mrs just had problems updating the os on her iPhone 6S plus. It was a month old, day after the update it wouldn't recognise any charger lead, ran flat and died. Had to be sent back and replaced!

Everything will need upgrading/updating as time goes on and new things come out. But it suits the hardware and software makers as machines can only update so long before they can't keep up with the software.

With Windows it seems they alternate from goid to bad each new os that comes out. As you guys notice XP was great! Vista that came next was terrible. My last Windows laptop runs Vista, each time I'd turn it on there would be 8392772 updates and it would take an age, I've given up with it now. 7 came after and is ok, 8 is horrible and 10 is supposed to be ok. If this carries on it may be wise to avoid the next one.

Apple isn't much better in that as I said at first, the hardware can only take so many updates before they brick. We have the first iPad, at around two years old the os update bricked it so it ran very slow and is only much use as a digital photo frame these days. But then as all the app's need updating you are in the end forced to buy the new (or newer) machine before long. Or sit there shouting "Load you f@@@@@g b@@@@@d"

I find W10 GREAT - MUCH better than 8.xxx.

The trouble is that it is a massive file to download so if you have a slow or erratic BB connection you will have trouble.

Worth the effort though.
