Engine timing

Hi all
Is there anybody close to Peterborough that could set the timing on my Plymouth
Stutters a bit when moving off and backfires/pops a little on the over run

Don't know the area, but if your backfiring on over run it could be the carb is too lean.
Check that all vacuum hoses to the carb are connected.
A simple timing exercise you can do is loosen the distributor clamp a little and advance the dizzy a little. Twist it anti clockwise for small block, opposite for big block.
You will hear the engine pick up in revs. Don't go mad, just try that and see it it improves the basic running.
Mopars like lots of advance. Trick is to get the balance right. You don't want so much advance that the car pings under load. If it does that, back it off a touch.
This is the non technical version of events, but as long as you mark where the dizzy is, you can't go far wrong and can easy return it to where it was.

Don't know how the carb is set up but it smelt rich when I bought the car.
Going to maybe get rid of the Edelbrock that is on and change for a Holley
I'll give the dizzy a turn and see how it goes.

I'm not a fan of Edelwbrock carbs, but people like them. I always get a new carb and job done.
