Hi everyone, just joined so thought I'd say hello. I've Just bought a pro street '72 Dodge Demon. It's an ex Terry Redburn car that was built for racing but has been sanitised by the last owner and slightly de-tuned to be more road friendly. It's got a 451 stroker big block, full cage and been tubbed etc but the guy I bought it from fitted carpets and windscreen wipers, heater and lights so it's MOT'able. I've owned a few American cars over the years but I've always been a GM man, despite being brought up in a Mopar family! and had them as my daily driver so I've always gone for more modern cars. I grew up around Chryslers, namely a Dodge Charger and a Plymouth Baracuda, and always wanted one for myself so when I saw this one I had to have it! Looking forward to meeting everyone when the meets start again in the new year

Hi, thanks. I had a feeling someone would know the car, it's not immaculate but it's presentable and I've always been one for driving 'em rather than cleaning 'em. It's been painted now too, in Plum Crazy so not the under seal look it had when it was a race car. It's had lots of little dents and scrapes cleaned up but it's no show car, but then it was built as a 'go car' not a 'show car' in the first place. If you know the car and any of its history, particularly photos, I'd love to hear about it. Cheers

Rob Millward is on here, he and Tony Jarvis originally built the car. I was there the day it came close to being written off in the pits back in the 80's. A 2 year only car, there are only a few in the U.K.

Cheers Blue, good to know it didn't get written off I suppose! Although at the age it is now it wouldn't really make any difference to me. What do you mean by a two year only car? That they only built Demons for two years? It would be interesting to know how many there are in the U.K. if anyone knows.

MilesnMiles, you must have seen it on eBay advertised, that was a dealer friend of his trying to 'help him' to sell it and adding some commission on top for himself. I bought it off Eurosragster, been looking for a Mopar for a couple of months since deciding to get rid of my modified LS1 daily driver and this just appealed to me, I had no idea they were even remotely rare (other than the obvious fact that it's a 43 year old car)

Yes only built in '71 & '72. Story goes the religious lobby pressured Chrysler into getting rid of the name, it became the Dart Sport after that. I think there are 3 other Demons in the club, I don't think there's many more over here. I don't think they are exactly rare it's just that they sold many more Dusters and Dart sports which are essentially the same car.

I knew the 'A' body was the same as the Plymouth Duster, like so many Chrysler models, but just assumed there were as many Demons as Dusters. Also didn't realise they were only built '71& '72. Cheers

Hi & welcome, I spoke to Mark the other day & he said he'd sold it, I can tell you some of the history of the car, I bought it around '85/86, I already had a genuine 340 Demon & didn't want to mess with that going big block, I found this Demon in a salvage yard that used to buy cars from USAF bases. IT had a slant 6 with a rod hanging out! It was absolutely rust free with a few dings to the front fenders & doors in a shade of gold with a black vinyl top & a mauve velour covered bench seat interior. I dropped in a freshly built 440/727 combo with a 100hp of NOS & it became an 11 sec daily driver. Drove & raced it for a couple of years until some Bananarama! t boned it in the pits at Santa Pod in 1988. If you look on my profile there is a pic of the car after the damage was done. I actually carried on using it for a few months like that, the pic was taken at the Yanks weekend at Shakey competing in the auto test.
A good friend (Glen Alexander, sadly no longer with us) gave me a complete rear quarter & another good friend (Tony Jarvis) carried out the repairs, we decided that it was an appropriate time to back half the car, so I had Geoff Hauser build the Dana 60 with Strange axles & suregrip with 5.13 gears.
I never got the car finished due to various personal circumstances so around 2000 I did a deal with Terry Redburn who I'm sure will fill in a few details.
I did end up buying the car back a few years ago with the intention of getting it how I'd always wanted but as with so many projects, I eventually realised that until I get to retire I'm not going to have the time to do that so passed it on to Mark.
I'm sure that you'll have some fun with it.
