Where's the engine gone chap or have I missed that bit? What's what's going in it or have I missed that bit as well?

Engine is on the stand, it will be going back in when I've checked it over and painted it. Didn't really want to take the wings off right now but it's the only way to clean and paint the underside, lots of bare metal under there.

Rapidly turning into that Ali, classic case of mission creep. Hopefully should start with reassembly next week, not that there's much more I could take off anyway...

One back on, other side off. As you can see little more than mud and bare metal on the underside, our wonderful British climate would have a field day wth that...

Hmm, no paint or factory undercoating on this side at all and a part number under the dirt. Looks like this has had a fender replaced back in the days when they were still available.

Pretty clean considering no under coat and not much paint

It is Drew but the surface rust is a lot heavier than I've seen on desert cars before, is that normal? It's almost like it's been in a
flood or something.

Oh yea it could have been in a flood, not to often, and after this many years even here in the desert, it will develop heavy surface rust, but never actually rust out

Thats useful to know, any bare metal on the interior such as the back of the dash frame has a proper crusty coat, I'm used to seeing just a brown tinge to the metal. Metal underneath is solid it's just the mess it all makes cleaning it up.

It could have been in a flash flood, survived, and dried out,or just sat on the north side of the house in the shadows, the one thing I always look for is rust on the passenger side ,because people left them on the street, and the right side of the car sat in the gutter ,so it could have gotten wet for short periods and then dried out in the hot sun

Yes at some stage Don, I'll do the engine bay while the motor is out and the rest will have to wait. Couldn't even do it right now if I wanted too, the lower quarter repair panels have been on back order for the last 6 months. AMD won't even give me a restocking date.
