If you watch any Discovery channels on Sky. you probably already know but Discovery are threatening to pull all their channels at the end of Jan, over a price dispute...

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-disco ... SKBN1592S6

So no more Fast n' Loud, Wheeler Dealers, Chasing Classic Cars etc... until they get shown on Freeview, a few years down the line...

Bastids.... if it goes ahead.

Another reason to reconsider my subscription with Sky...

I binned it off back end of last year on Virgin......Price kept on creeping up. Saved £20 a month by loosing the option to view Street Outlaws (Discovery and History package).

I'd long since given up on Fast n Loud due to it being more about Richard than the cars. Rest was just repeats!!

Eventually it'll make its way onto Dave or you can always find them on Youtube!!!!

Roadkill is by far the best car related programme on (Online only), but even they have got bitten by pay per view as we now have Motor Trend on Demand. I'll wait a month to see it on YT thanks. Shame as in the last year you now have Roadkill Garage. Freiburger and Steve Dulcich host this and its mainly Mopar and messing around with engines........Kinda stuff I enjoy watching, but its subscription only!

Add to that Engine Masters (also on YT free), and I think Mr Freiburger has pretty much got my preferred automotive viewing tastes down to perfection!

You can keep your Discovery Mr Sky/Virgin!!! :D :thumbright:

YES THIS IS A BITCH I WATCH MOST OF THE DISCOVERY PROGRAMMES,,

Buy one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... 2&_sacat=0

connect to wifi and TV

open Kodi

go to video add ons

install or choose one of the following
Exodus
UK Turks Playlist
SALTS
phoenix

any of those will have a stream of discovery or the programme you want

choose a source and watch

Job done

if you get stuck, www.tvaddons.ag for the lowdown on KODI XBMC and addons

you might have a bit of a fight with the box when you get it. it thinks its an android phone with no battery and no sim card, therefore some technical knowledge is necessary to get it to see your laptop or take feeds from you phone....
but you don't need to do any of that if you just want to stream the odd show

but other than that .... all good

suggest you get a Bluetooth keyboard with touchpad mouse intergrated, to go with it, the small one in the more expensive packages does the job just fine.

other models other an Q box 2 exist i chose chose that cos it does 4K video

unbranded electronics from china (actually SunVell)...who do you think sky got their new Q box idea from.... in their case just one of these tethered to your skybox)

possibly not totally legal because you don't know if the provider of the material has paid the copyright holder and is legally allowed to stick that stuff on the internet.

remember the old Mantra "Home Taping is killing music" and all those warnings about not storing your favorite magazines in a document retrieval system. Public performance licences from a grey looking office on Ganton street if you wanted to play your new 45 rpm single over a PA system at the school christmas fair...

you could inadvertently put yourself into the same territory....

but works with free view iplayer 4OD ITV player Quest catch up etc as well sky catch up foxtel catch up ABC CBS HBO etc

its like the smart bit of a smart TV that actually has smart stuff in it that you might use.

You can also enjoy web/street cams from all over the world
CCTV etc

want to sit at the top of the eiffel tower or on the brooklyn bridge while you have your tea...you can
Images from cameras on satellites and planes
hours and hours spent watching great dane puppies in canada do nothing...its a finger click away

foot ball matches and boxing

films

concerts

russian TV and italian shopping channels

anything really

can turn you TV into a truly terrifying window into a place you don't wanna go. for example i watched the first episode of Grange Hill last night....
benny was the first character we meet, through the gates too early, quick chat with the care taker....... i won't go on.

if you connect controllers to it you can play arcade games on it

its quite a cool toy
in the way that Napster was quite a cool bit of software

when you go on holiday you can just take it with you works anywhere with a telly and an internet connection

use at own risk

or just download and run Kodi on your PC, install the addons and screen share with ya telly

that costs nuffin but a VGA/DVI/HDMI cable or a bit of windows 7 magic and a home network

ahh great minds....

i like the concert list in UK Turks

i watched The Jam's farewell gig the other night and a bit of Madness in Hyde Park 2016. and all i went in to find was the first episode of homeland that i'd missed

i recon thats fair game if its already been on the FREE telly.

I'm stuck with sky , as like you, my broadband is crapslow.
One of the joys of living in the country.
I had not heard about this. I think I probably watch 90% discovery channels.

Blimey Dave, did you take a breath at all whilst typing that !!!

You should write instruction manuals for a living. :read2:

Thankfully I don't get much time for TV, the thought of re-watching Grange Hill is a bit cringy. I find a few programmes that I grew up with don't quite have the same effect now, especially if you try to convince the kids how good they were and this is what made us great etc etc.

Home taping :thumbright:

Did you try recording the Top 40 on Sunday afternoon, finger hovering over the Pause button and trying to keep everyone else in the living room quiet?
