A little whila ago I was thinking that there is so much of the UK that I have never seen and it got me thinking :-k . why not do a small UK road trip visiting friends and family on the way.

I live in surrey so I planned a route to do a loop to get us home, first stop was Scarborough to visit a friend that bought a guest house there a couple of years ago, what a beautiful place that is, while there we went to Whitby and Goathland, Goathland is where Heartbeat was filmed so we did all the usual tourist things, Scripts garage, Adenfield Arms for a pint and the local railway station, now I can't stop watching Heartbeat and saying to the Grandchildren " I've been in that pub and I've been it that Post Office ", we didn't really get to see much of Whitby due to the weather, we did manage to see the Abbey ruins and the small harbour, I know we will go back at some time

I never realalised the Yorkshire Moores were so big.

From Scarborough the we travelled north west to Coatbridge in Scotland to see some of Liz's family, boy can some of them drink, one of Liz's brother in laws has just bought himself a new Aston Martin V12, manual, I missed out taking it out once again due to the poxy rain.

On the Sunday we had a 30 mile drive in the rain to see Nick Grant ( bbb ), he used to be on here with a Black 66 Charger that went to Germany when he sold it, Nick moved to Dunblaine around 5 years ago and loves evey minute that he has been there.

From Scotland we went south to Blackpool, some have asked why Blackpool, the reason being is, I've driven passed it at least 30 times and never stopped, this time we stopped just for one night, I know some think it's run down but the parts we saw were OK, the tower was Ok and the lights were just as I thought they would be but I'm glad we saw them, that's another one of the list.

Next stop was Liverpool, this was only a brief stop on our way to Birmingham, Once again I had driven passed many times but never stopped, I wanted to see the Cavern and Penny Lane, I wasn't the only one, there were hundreds of others with the same idea.

Next stop Birming to see more family, overnight stop there then home, in total around 1300 miles.

There are still lots of places in the UK that I want to see but they will have to wait until next year.

Yep great idea Derek, you cant beat a good road trip. When I turned 50 we took the campervan around the country to see people I had not seen for ages...Southampton, Kent, Lytham St Annes etc and totally agree the Yorkshire moors are a wonderful sight to behold. Glad you enjoyed it. Now plan the next one!

Nice trip Derek, glad you liked Yorkshire 8-) . With my job ,it's a bonus I get to see most of the country and Europe. I just take it for granted and never give it a thought that some people don't travel far. Agree ,there is some great places to visit here.

Looks like you had a great time! I love a road trip, don't really need to do it in the UK though as with Our interests and family we tend to get around a fair bit anyway. I would like a proper mooch round Scotland though, not really seen any of it.
