The 390 I've spent the last three years researching and building.
Night and day difference, even though I've take it no where near its limit yet.

I did the same and got second engine so I could keep mine on the road while it was being built.
Glad I did.

One thing that needs to be mentioned.......cost!
Make sure you have a realistic view of what it will cost, especially with the bloody awful exchange rate we have these days.
I set what I thought was a good budget. Final build cost was double.

Did I enjoy it....yes
Always wanted to spec and get an engine built with my ow personal goals.

Was it worth it....ask me after I've put it on track.

Would I do it again......TBC.

Nice job, the '68 Barracuda we have has run a 13.88 @ 99 and some change with a 3.23 gear (0.030 over 318), It barely gets into 3rd gear at the strip. I've had the speedo off the end of the 120mph scale a few times. Car feels wayyy light at the front end at those speeds. :D

15.25 at 82 on a smog era 318.
My hope for low 12s now.

The other costs that are worth considering - axle upgrade, gearbox upgrade and torque converter to match the new engine and intended use.

I built mine from the back forwards so had the first two sorted with the end goal in mind well in advance.

a 318 is cheaper to buy than a 360 and doesn't give up much displacement with the 4" stroker kit, 390 vs 408 with both at .030" over bore. also your sump, mounts etc are a direct swap with another 318 block whereas they're not with a 360 block.
neil.
