Why muscle cars?
In the American car market the Sixties and early Seventies was a special time. Unfettered by safety and anti-pollution legislation, and with a new customer base of youngsters with money to spend, the US car manufacturers gave the public what they wanted - rakish styling and plenty of V8 power options - comfort and refinement took a back seat! Modern vehicles are smoother, quieter, more economical, better handling and sometimes faster, but anyone who has driven a proper muscle car will tell you they are so much more fun. If they don't you'd better check their pulse!

What is a Mopar?
Mopar is a generic term for cars made by Chrysler (now 'Daimler-Chrysler'), that includes Dodge, De Soto, Eagle, Imperial, Jeep and Plymouth brands ... Chrysler also bought the AMC company, although they never produced any cars badged as such. The term comes from the Mopar brand name on official Chrysler spare parts - literally short for 'Motor Parts'.

Why Mopar?
No other manufacturer entered into the spirit of the muscle car more than Chrysler, particularly under the Dodge and Plymouth brands. The cars followed a very simple ethos - all that mattered was that they looked and sounded right and could be driven hard both on the road and at the drag strip. With names like Road Runner, Charger and Challenger, fitted with engines called Hemi, Super Commando and Magnum, there was little doubt that these cars were built to be driven hard. The drivetrains were made to handle the punishment, too!

The MMA believes in using the cars the way they were intended. Most of our cars are not wrapped up in cotton wool but used on the road, or at the dragstrip; frequently both.

Who's in the MMA?
In short, anyone with an interest in these cars. That is the only entry requirement. Whoever and wherever you are, whether you have a mint Hemi 'Cuda convertible or a daily driven 318 Dart, or indeed, if you do not yet own one of these great cars, you will be welcome and treated equally in the MMA. There is no additional charge for joining from outside the United Kingdom.

What's the point? I'll never be able to afford a Mopar
Wrong - while some Mopar cars have rocketed in value recently, there are still good deals available to those prepared to put in some time and effort. The MMA is an excellent place to find out about cars for sale, values, parts, insurance and technical issues. Don't be put off by lack of knowledge or funds, many MMA club members are on a very tight budget and many maintain and restore their own cars. The MMA has a fantastic wealth of knowledge and experience.

What benefits are there to being in the club?
