Re: Engine loves eating bronze dizzy gears

Interesting and thank you Dave's. Not sure whether I have a cam button fitted...I suspect not, but will check with my 'chief mechanic'! Along with switching back to a stock oil pump, this may make the difference. Don't really want to drop back to a flat tappet cam as performance with my current setu...

mygasser wrote: Sun May 12, 19 11:11 am also bear in mind that the bits of both (so far) bronze gears are now in the sump with the oil pickup and could therefore find their way into the oilways (if they don't block the pickup first) which is never good.

Re: Engine loves eating bronze dizzy gears

Actually Super Sloth, I am running a HV oil pump....might be the issue. Given that it's not recommended to fit a steel gear on a used cam I might fit another bronze one and swap out the pump for a regular one.

Re: Engine loves eating bronze dizzy gears

@Boz - yes, think I'm going to do that. Was wondering whether there might be gears made out something tougher than bronze but less tough than steel, but doesn't look like there is, apart from some I see referred to as coated? Wouldn't want to be relying on a coating. @Sloth - Yes, that's the setup -...

Engine loves eating bronze dizzy gears

So, 2 x bronze (oil pump/dizzy) gears have now been eaten away and neither lasted more than a few hundred miles. First symptom I noticed both times was a drop off in performance due to timing having backed itself off as the gear has worn....much worse and I'd have ended up low/no oil pressure pretty...

Re: DVLA say my vehicle needs examining

Thanks Dave, not really modified at all....just a couple of the usual tweaks. Someone fitted a Pertronix and the original Motorcraft carb has been replaced by an Edelbrock, but that's it. Should be fine then, though I may now need to make sure all the lighting is compliant.

DVLA say my vehicle needs examining

Hi everyone, would appreciate some advice on an issue I've encountered with getting my latest import registered.. So, over the past few years I've imported 8 cars from the US and registered 7 with the DVLA with zero issues. But, I've just tried to register my 72 Lincoln Mark IV (had it over here for...

Registering with DVLA

I haven't registered a car since the new regs came in that exempt our older cars from MOT's, so was wondering what the score is with first time registration - MOT still required (as a one off maybe), or just complete the form and send off with the money?

Re: They’re still out there - Barn find 71 GTX

I’m with Mr Bacca now and he’s corrected me about the GTX colour. Although it was restored and painted yellow in the 90’s, the car at that time had been painted black. However, black wasn’t the original colour either as it came off the production line in dark green metallic. As it has an original gr...

Re: They’re still out there - Barn find 71 GTX

He's gone down the originality path with his Charger 500...or as far as he reasonably can...but think he just wants to build this one how he wants it...plus he really didn't like the original colour.
